Reverse Trigger Job
« on: February 25, 2011, 01:55:51 PM »
I did a reverse trigger job today. The receiver I purchased from a member here had a nice light trigger and firing pin/hammer work. Worked well on my hand made muzzleloader. I used this on several calibers and it became very light. I couldn’t feel it with light gloves on and accuracy deteriorated. I finally did the test and it dropped the hammer every time with a tap on the ground. Worried me. I studied the FAQs and posts and decided new parts were in order. Purchased a new trigger and spring from Brownells. 13.00 and change, delivered in 3 days. Never touched a handi before but have changed two trigger guards on a Rossi. Same procedure I supposed. Upon disassembly I found that all parts were honed/ground and the trigger spring was clipped and stretched. Also the trigger guard was a little buggered. I have downloaded an explicit set of instructions on doing this work and they were extremely helpful. Color pictures and instructions, with how to use your fingers, toes and nose to complete this operation.  1 hour, new spring, trigger, cleaned and lubed, re-assembled and works fine.  I was ascard to do this at first but it was really not a difficult task.  These Handis really are a handi-mans gun.

just curious, is this an older model as in pre-transfer bar hammer? thought current offering could only strike primer/fire with trigger pressure, as in a bump or jar on ground could only make hammer fall but not activate firing pin. regards, jather.....

You are correct, but the trigger was so light, it would go off before I was ready. Not good for hunting. Ok on the bench, I guess but as soon as I stuck my finger in it would go off. It was definitely broke and worn out. It was not correctly done. I prefer a heavier trigger. I have a S&W 41 mag 586 set up with target trigger and hammer. Boy is that sweet, shoots like a laser. PS Several have asked where I got the instructions, I finally figured out where, The site was "www.perkloafm.com"
