making 270 Win. cases from 30/06

I have many once-fired 30/06 cases that I may never use in a 30/06. Need more 270 cases for my Handi Rifle. I would like to form 270 cases out of 30/06 cases and use them in my 270, even though they would be considerably shorter than factory 270 cases. My question is this: Would there be any negative effects in the rifle's chamber if I use these shortened reformed cases on a consistent basis?

Just trying to use what I have, but I don't want to cause any permanent damage to my barrel.

I have made lots of 270 Winchester brass from 30-06 Springfield brass and had zero problems. Yes a little shorter, but no damaging effects from such modification. Just lube and run through a full length sizer die.

Some don't like mixed head stamps, but I have had no mishaps. I properly label my ammo/brass and I am the only one who has access.

I also make 7mm-08 Remington from 308 Winchester, 338-06 A-Square from 30-06 Springfield. I also like the use the cheapest brass available or use whats on hand.

usually works fine but sometimes especially if your using military 06 brass thats a bit thicker you will have to turn your necks down a bit. Size one down and load it and then shoot it. After you shoot it a bullet should fall into the fired case. If it doesnt you need to turn the necks. Same goes for 308 to 708. How tight your rifles chamber is will also play into this. I recently sized down a bunch of 270 wby to 257wby and they wouldnt chamber smoothly until i turned the necks down.

Reform a case, load a bullet in it and mic the neck diameter.  Mic the neck diameter of a fired original case from your .270 stuff.  If your "new" round is any smaller at all than the fired case you are good to go.

I am up to my ears with 30-06 brass resized to 270 Winchester.  I like military brass because the headstamp does not create any confusion between -06 and 270.  Having said that I prefer R-P commercial brass resized for the Remington 760, I believe the slightly shorter length reduces pressure and enhances functioning.

I have been using a Lyman Large Rifle Crimp remover for the military cases.

I have never needed to turn the necks of the cases when going from -06 to 270.

I got my 270 about 1968 all I had was 1 box of 270 ammo that Jack O'Connor gave me and several hundred 06 needless to say I have never fired one of his rounds but resized every 06 I had after a few firings and FL sizing they will grow into the right length.

I don't care for R&P 260 brass so I have turned lots of 308 LC match into it.
