First bear

Took my first bear ever this afternoon.  WMU 3J.  This is the second bear off of this property in the last three years.

Shoulder mount with this one, my buddy gave me his bear hide two years ago and I had a rug done.  What did you do with yours and what did it weigh?

It was 312lb dressed (400 live?) and squared almost 7'.  I should get the rug in February or March.

The bad part was that we couldn't get a truck or 4wheeler to it and had to carry it on a stretcher for about a quarter mile before we could get it to a vehicle.  That sucked! :o

I'll post pics of the finished product if you will.

That was a long wait guntech59.  Nice Bear though.  I can sympathize with you on the wait.   I had a Coon Hide Rug made from the 1st Racoon my Bluetick Hound treed.  Took forever to get it back.

BTW: Did you try the meat?

Yes, Sir!  We did eat it.  More sausage than anything else.  The backstraps were the best, of course.  We also got roasts (very good) and steaks (not so good).  Alot of camp chili was made from that bear.
