H&R Single Shot Shotgun Dated Feb. 27, 1900
« on: February 21, 2011, 08:49:40 AM »
I do not know anything about this gun, and I cannot find anything on it. Someone please help.

A single barrelled single shot shotgun from Harrington & Richardson Arms Co.

On the left side above the trigger it is stamped in the metal:

Harrington & Richardson Arms Co.
Worcester. Mass U.S.A. Pat. Feb. 27, 1900

Rtorres,
I can't tell by your pictures - does your shotgun have a fixed or removable hinge pin - that will tell the model.
The date stamped on the receiver is the PATENT date - not date of manufacture.  With one Patent date, I'll bet it has a removable hinge pin with a wing toggle on the top.  If so it is a Model 1900.  Supply the serial number and the gauge and we can tell you a bit more about it.  Check the picture below:

You have a Model 1908 large frame shotgun with "rounded tang" - that's the part that runs back into the stock behind the trigger guard.  Looks to be from the early 1920's  - I can't quite make out the serial number.  It is a 12 gauge, maybe a 2 3/4" or 2 1/2" chamber - it is not safe to shoot a 2 3/4" shell in a 2 1/2" chamber - get a gunsmith to check it for you.  Also - it looks pretty rusty -have a gunsmith check it for safe function be shooting - IMHO.  Good luck with it.

Pics cleared up - with that serial number in the 200,000 range - I'm inclined to believe it was made earlier than I thought, probably closer to 1912-14.  It is equipped with an extractor - can see that from the lug- rather than an ejector - and it is choked "full".  Surface condition is very poor - internals may not be much better, be careful.  Retail value in that condition is $10 to $25.
