Mossberg Model 43 Target
« on: January 27, 2004, 02:42:56 PM »
I just bought an old Mossberg Model 43 and know nothing about them, in fact I haven't even shot a Mossberg since I was in Junior rifle club back in the late 50's.
Can anyone shed some light on my new treasure?  How did they stack up with the competitors from the era?  Mine was made in 1937 so I would suppose it was designed with the Winchester 75 target and the Stevens target model.  It does have an externally adjustable trigger which it a real asset.
Thanks for any input.
Dale :D

I also have one. Picked it up cheap, and with a little cleaning, it's one of my most accurate rimfires. The model 43 was only made for 2 years, 1937 and 1938. They feature mossbergs premium lead lapped barrels. Normally came with Lyman rear aperature sights. You can find out a lot more info at  www.havlinsales.com , they are the historical organization for Mossberg, specializing in the rimfire rifles. You can get parts and info. Enjoy that rifle.

I can't speak for your model rifle, but my Mossberg 140K (made between 1955-1959, I think) is an excellent shooter. I don't waste my time at 50 yards, I enjoy shooting it at 100 and 200 yards   with a combination of a Marbles' rear peep sight and a Williams Firesight front sight. Mossberg seems to have made really good .22s, enjoy it.
