Need info on TCR 87
« on: February 27, 2011, 08:01:05 PM »
I see this is where the TC expert guys are.
I see the TCR 87s have their barrels set in a mono-block breach
that the pivot block is part of, all one piece. Are the barrels
pressed in, soldered in, or threaded in and what is the
diameter of the barrel shank that goes in the mono-block.
Most important I need that shank diameter info.Ed

I think they are threaded in as I was going to have MGM make me a custom barrel in 7x57 and I would have had to donate a barrel so they could use the mono block in the new chambering. I ask what cal and they said did not make any difference as they would screw in a new barrel and chamber it to 7x57. I think you will need to call TC or MGM and they will be able to give you the correct answer. I called TC  about buying a mono block but they had none for sale. By the way they have plenty of repair parts but none for sale. They just replaced a split stock on my 83 at NC. how is that for service.
What cal of barrel are you trying to make? MGM will do one for 400.00 in blue if you have a doner barrel.

Its been way too many years since I had my TCR 83's & 87's to offer spec info just from memory, but any custom shop that does rebarrel them would know what diameter the barrel shank is.   Also, a gent here on GBO rebarreled a bunch of them 3-4 years ago that should know the specs if he is still active.   Seems like his name was Don, so you may try a search for him.

FWIW, TC has never sold most of the parts for any of their modern firearm models to end users, and dang few of them even to qualified gunsmiths.   And least of all barrel recoil blocks because of the obvious legal ramifications (law suites) doing so could lead to for them.    I remember way back when it became "the new thing" to take shot out Contender barrels, whack them off just ahead of the recoil block, bore and thread them to fit new barrels for rechamber.    Had to be a nightmare for TC with no control of WHAT got rechambered on THEIR weld job.   Folks tried to buy barrel recoil blocks direct for TC back then, and got a firm no.
