Favorite Hunting Photo?
« on: February 23, 2011, 01:35:34 PM »
I know that most of us here hunt. So what is your favorite hunting photo and why?

Here's mine. This one because it was the first double score by my son and I when turkey hunting. I wasn't long out of the hospital for bypass surgery so hunting with my son was even more special than usual. It was an awesome hunt and one I'll always remember and treasure.

This was my first, and only, Pronghorn. I won the hunt with Dave Watson and besides the hunt I got a new T/C Encore .270 with a 3 x 9 x 32 Bushnell Elite scope, Bushnell Legend binoculars and Yardage Pro 1,000 range finder, a full set of cammo, and they filmed the hunt for Dave's show, at the time "Secrets of the Hunt". My hunt even made it onto the "Best of" DVD. How cool is that? So you can see why this one's a favorite. Dave teased me because even though we had one very scary plane ride getting there, small plane with 50 mph crosswinds, you couldn't wipe the grin off my face no way no how! :D

Great looking Prong Horn, good turkeys too.  Keep it up, don't look back.  Like me old age is chasing us and we have one heck of a run to stay ahead of it.  Rog

Thanks, better to be over the hill than under it!  ;D

We love to turkey hunt and are lucky to live in the Ozarks. Here's a couple more favorite pics.

I hunted deer for years but just took up turkey hunting about 10 years ago. My son got me started and I love it more than deer hunting. Here's my son's best bird yet. I saw it first but let him take the shot;

30lbs 6oz, 11" beard and a 9 1/2" beard ( double bearded) 1 3/4" spurs

My first turkey I called in by myself. 22 lbs, 1 1/2 " spurs and 12" beard

I have two.
Both are of my two boys with their first deer while hunting with me on our farm.
The oldest was about 12 and took his 8pt with my first BC at about 60yds.
The youngest was about 8 and took his 8pt with my old PA Hunter 50cal round ball at just over 80yds.
I have a few others but these two are my all time favorites because it was their first and I was with them.
Memories to share a lifetime!!!

Great birds, Spirithawk. I miss the days in central Texas when a 10" bearded Tom was a pest. Now that the numbers have stabilized it is a treasure. Longtom,   :D Good job for the kiddo with the roundball. Just curious, how effective was that .50 cal round ball?

Mohawk:
I used that old gun for over 20 years before I put it away in favor of many newer style MZs.
Only a very few ever did as good as the old round ball did.
I have taken many, many deer with it along with my first 3 turkeys, a fox and a few groundhogs.
The longest shot was a true 140 yds on a nice young jake (LUCK SHOT I AM SURE) and it went less than 20 yds after being hit.
The longest deer was around maybe 120 and dropped right there with a complete pass through.
I once took 2 turkeys in less than 3 minutes with it.
The PA Hunter is the fastest MZ to load I ever owned , even using speed loaders in the newer guns I couldn't match it!
I load Hornaday 490s with a TC Wonder patch (pre lubed) and 90gr of Pyodex Select with an old 4 power Weaver scope.
It now has a Bushnell 2.5 x10 on it.
I would never get rid of it.

Thanks for the info, Longtom. I was thinking of getting into some MZ shooting in the near future and I keep hearing folks are getting back to round ball loads for deer.

You're right, except for that last one. She wasn't born yet. She's the cutest daughter I have ever had. ;)

Great pics. Every year about this time I get the itch to go turkey hunting but I never follow through on it when the season opens. I should give it a try this year.

HEH. When I started with my 1st bbgun nobody I know ever even heard of eye protection and I never heard of anybody losing an eye either. One older lady in town loved for me to come over and kill a bunch of sparrows, she hated them. Good practice for larger game. We'd sit on her porch talking and I'd kill them whever they landed close by.  POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
