Custom Knife handle

I have a challenge for ya'll.  I had a bright Idea to possible make a custom handle for my splicing knife.  Why idk, just becuase I guess.  the only think it is, it has to be very comfortable and durable as it will get alot of use.  any ideas?

Well, your first challenge is to get the plastic one off of that knife! ::)  I would go with a nice hardwood, epoxy the knife in the chunk of wood and get after it with a rasp until it fits your hand and you like it.
Which lie got to you so that you refuse Him???

that is very true,  actually that would probably the hardest part of anything I would do, even for being the first handle I would be making.

I would try softening the handle by heating it boiling water.  Once softened you may be able to twist the handle off with pliers.  There are all sorts of handle material availible from any of the on-line knife making supliers.  Another source is a replacement hickory tool handle from the local hardware store.  Hickory is a good hard and fine grained wood.  You can be creative with hickory with many different wood stains and finishes.  Be sure to post a picture when you are done with it.

Ive always been partial to horn or bone handles.   Ive recently re-handled a few of my own knives with moose bone and am amazed at how nice it polishes. 

Really boils down to personal preference, and if you are looking at the handle from a purely functional standpoint, or want a little class.  I hear that some folks are putting rubber handles on filet knives...not real classy but durable with lots of grip for your hand.

I really like antler but do not like it with the burr on. If boiling won't move it you may try progressively warmer oven, remember water stops at 212.
