Redhawk 45 colt accuracy
« on: February 18, 2011, 02:03:00 PM »
Has anybody had any experience with the 4-inch 45 Colt Redhawk?  How is the accuracy?  Have heard that some Blackhawk 45s had problems with oversized cylinders and poor accuracy.

I have the 7.5" and I haven't worked with it much, but it leads up something awful with .452 lead,  I tried some Schofields from Black Hills and had to really scrub the cylinder to get it cleaned out, the throats all measure out at .451. I've heard the opposite mostly that the throats are undersized.  I've decided to either open up the throats or try Nosler and Sierra .451-.4515 bullets to see how it does. I haven't slugged the barrel yet so that may end up being the deciding factor.

Thanks for the input.  I have one with a 4-inch barrel waiting for me at my local candy store right now!  Wanted this as a backup if I decide to hog hunt with my single shot 50 Alaskan.  Should do the job.  My understanding is that it can be loaded up to performance levels that match or even exceed the 44 magnum in modern cartridges - unlike the old balloon head cartridges of yester-year and it does make big holes  ;D

Hornady has speical loads that do just that. They are impresive . Back up gun ? Its a good gun for pigs and deer in its own rite.  ;)
