Rechamber to 358 Win??

Has anyone rechambered their 357 MAG barrel to 358 Win? How does the 1:15 1/2" twist work? I am contemplating the idea and would be interested to know others experiences. It would most certainly be on a SB2 frame too. ;)

Currently I have a 357 Max, 358 Win and a 35 Whelen. The only problem is that they are all TC Encores. ;) I want to get Handis instead.

If it wasnt for you already geared up for that caliber I would have recommended the 358/30-30; an oldie but goodie.

Although not the same, the 35 Rem is on my wishlist already. ;)

I'll be watching this. I have accumulated 3- .357 maxi's now (one Encore, 2 Handi's) and have been thinking about doing something crazy like this with one of them.  :)

A 356 Win is the way to go , (because of the rimmed case). It is on mine list of things to do.Folks I have talked to say the Speer 220 gr works well with the twist of the handi 357.You can use standard 358 win dies and a 356 shell holder to reload.Cases are available from Winchester so it has a lot going for it .

I am a big fan of the 308 based cartridges and would jump on either a 358 or 356.

Was it rechambered from a 1:15.5" twist 357 Mag? If not, which twist?

gcrank thinks calibers, like wine, must be properly aged.  If it ain't at least 100 years old it ain't ready for shootin'. ;D

Would it be fair to say tht a lot of these 'newish' cartridges are just reinventing the wheel while putting a few corners on it?

gcrank, I think you are on to something there.  My 25'06 shoots within 300 fps of the Winchester 257 wsm, and with lighter bullets (up to 87 grain) runs right with the weatherby.  All at lower pressure, and using less powder 8)

And I believe the 'old' 219 Zipper does likewise without burning out throats near as fast as 'whatever' replaced it on the market.
Dinny, I wouldnt mind your idea in the rimmed version, I am just not fond of rimless in H&R's. For me and cast bullets the 358/30-30 (or 35/30-30) holds all the powder I need, but for those who want the hot-rock jacket loads the 308 based cases are pretty good. I think I would do this rather than the Remmy
