Postponed F1 Metallica Gig Now Canceled Posted Sun Oct 30, 2011 1:21pm PDT by Reuters in Stop The Presses!

(Reuters) - A concert by heavy metal band Metallica on the sidelines of the inaugural Indian Grand Prix, which was earlier postponed till Saturday, has now been canceled as organizers failed to attain necessary approval, the band said in a statement.
The show was postponed on Friday evening after a "failure of a security barricade in front of the stage that could not be adequately repaired," Metallica said.
TV images and footage posted on YouTube showed an angry mob on stage throwing water bottles and equipment in the air and at organizers. Equipment worth $200,000 belonging to the band was damaged, local TV reported.
TV channels also quoted sources saying four of the organizers had been arrested. It was not immediately clear what the possible charges against them are.

"Our first and foremost concern is always for the safety of you," Metallica said in the statement posted on their website. The band added ticketholders will be entitled to a full refund.
The concert was part of the entertainment organised to coincide with the inaugural Formula One race in India. Lady Gaga is also scheduled to perform in Delhi at an invitation-only show in a five-star hotel club after the race on Sunday.
This is the second such embarrassment for the Indian capital this year, after a concert by Canadian rock star Bryan Adams was canceled when police refused to give organizers permission.
Facebook and Twitter were abuzz with heavy criticism of the organisers and the inability to successfully arrange high profile music events in Delhi.
The announcement disappointed thousand of fans, some of whom had waited for hours, and traveled miles to attend.

It just sounds to me like the show was canceled because the organizers could not get their crap together and it made some fans upset that waited many hours in line to get tickets. Dale

"Is this typical heavy metal mentality??"

I would like to think it was the mentality of more performers.  Had it been the mentality of performers at Indianapolis recently a few lives could have been saved.  When safety issues arise and promoters and others fail to do their jobs, it's good know some performers are willing to step up.  In this case the promoters should be held responsible for all damages.

it seemed that the title of your post had a very critical tone to it; at least to me it did.

metallica has been around for 30 years....and in that thirty years, they have been as influential as black sabbath.    there is no one bigger or better.    they have been there, done that.   i doubt there is much these guys havent seen.    having the years under their belt, and the experience that life brings, i would expect they would make responsible decisions.

as far as heavy metal...it is like everything else in life.  you got some good people, and you have some bad.

Metallica has been a successful business for about 35 years. Think of it as a business when issues like this arise.

Used to listen to many of those types of bands when I was growing up. Don't listen to much of that music anymore, but when I hear it, it brings back memories. I always thought groups like Gun's-N-Roses, and Def Leppard, created some of the best music ever. Of coarse I add the pre 1977 Lynyrd Skynyrd band to that group also. The creation of Free Bird, Tuesday's Gone and Simple Man was genesis. The opening chords to those three songs still gives me chills. Must have something to do with, back in the younger years.
I would have to add Fleetwood Mac to that same list also.
Maybe we could turn this thread into the best rock band ever thread.  ;D
