Winter Project Blackhawk

Finally finished my winter project work on a .45 colt.  It needed some re-blueing and while I had it apart took the finish off the grip frame then gave it a "flat top" haircut.

DennisB...  Your .45 lloks pretty good to me...Old Man Winter was very good to you!  I'm curious about the "haircut" though...perhaps a picture and/or description is in order??

Phalanx429:  Look closely at the rear sight/top of the mainframe (a closeup pic is below).  This B'hawk wasn't a "flat top" when it left the factory; by "haircut" I meant that I used a couple of files on the top strap to remove the ears around the sight base to make it look like an earlier "flat top" version.  (I'm suprised no one looked at the pre-warning barrel, caliber, etc., and said, "Hey, wait a minute, Jim...") ;D

DennisB... Thank you for the explanation and the side view picture.  All this is very interesting...however, could you give us a "45 degree" (no pun intended) angle and "straight down" picture showing how the top strap came out?  Again thank you for sharing you project with us.

Nice! I noticed right away it was a "pre-warning" New Model.  I have a similar example, however the top strap was left original but I switched grip frames from the aluminum to an aftermarket brass version.   A Super hammer seems like the way to go, as well.



Oh, yes, that's a Old Model .45 beside his "Liberty Marked" cousin.........
