Or maybe the errors are making this a trial?
I think I should just quit wasting my time with the 125 grain bullets in my .357 Rossi. I tried several loadings. 13.6gr Blue Dot, 14.5 grains Blue Dot. Then 16.9 grains Lil' Gun, 17.5 grains Lil'Gun, and 18 grains Lil'Gun. Nothing under 2" at 40 meters. The bullet is a Lee 125 grain RNFP. The amount of bullet that is below the crimping cannelure is identical to the 158 grain RNFP. That means the OAL is really short.
Does the space between the bullet and the rifling make a big difference with paper patched bullets?
The reason I think I'm wasting my time with this bullet is I haven't had much luck with this bullet just as normal grooved and lubricated.
The 158grain bullet on the other hand works well as a grooved-lubricated bullet. I've gotten groups under 1" at 40 meters. So far, as a paper patched bullet I haven't gotten really good results. 2" at 40 meters, and that's if I only count the best 4 out of 5.
