405 win rechamber
« on: March 10, 2011, 10:02:52 AM »
To rechamber a 223 barrel to a 405 win what can be done for the extractor? Can the 223 extractor remain in position when it is rechambered?

I'm sure a gunsmith would remove the extractor during a rechamber. I'm not sure if the extractor could be modified to work with the bigger rimmed case or if you'd need a different extractor altogether. You could give Wayne York a call and ask him.. he's done alot of barrel work for guys here on the site. I think he did Tim's rechamber to 405 Win.
Tim... where are you right now?? ;D

The 223 extractor post could be modified to work with the 405, I'd make the modification on it separately instead of trying to do it with the reamer tho, it's a lot harder material than the barrel is. Mine was done on a 38-55 ejector barrel.
