What Automatic 22 Pistol?

I am interested in an accurate shooting 22 automatic. One that I might put a red dot on. I have a t/c with a 22 and a red dot, but I would also like to have an auto. I have looked at a number of them in the various auctions etc. but sure would like some outside help. Thanks.

Rev:  I have a couple 22 autos. and not my favorite I would recomend the ruger mk 11 Stainless with a bull barrel, and go from there, my favorite is a S&W 422 it lightweight and accurate and a pleasure to carry in the field, have a safe holiday. :D   JIM

I have the Ruger MkII standard model....I put a set of Millet target sights on it years ago, and have used it hunting ever since.....the gun is quite accurate (more so than I am).  The gun is quite economical as well, when compared to other .22 pistols out there.....I give a second vote for the Ruger.

Make that three Ruger votes.  I have the blue 5 1/2" bull barreled target model.  I've owned it since 1984.  Very pleased with it.

I have a Browning Buckmark that will digest everything I feed it.  Have had no problems with feeding at all.  Accurate and fun to shoot.

Wish I could say the same for the Mark II Ruger I bought.  A friend and I got new Mark IIs this year and both have had feed problems.  Both have also had the rear sight drift in use.  Took it to my gunsmith and the screw that holds the rear sight in place was placed wrong - not making contact with anything.  New hole, new screw, problem fixed.  My friend's gun had the same problem.  Mine still won't feed anything but Thunderbolts and then not all the time.

I love Rugers, have had them for years, but I quit buying new ones.  The few I have bought new had poor quality control.

I love the Browing Buckmaster.  It points better for me.  Pick a couple up at the gun shop and feel them and see what you like.  The S&W feles good but I dislike the mag realease. Godd Shopping

Rev:  I've had two Ruger 22s, a MkI 5.5" bull barrelled target model and now have a 6.5" bull barrelled MkII Government Target Model.  I don't know which one handled better but I would recommend either one.   My current 22 wass more accurate than I am right out of the box.  HTH.  Mikey.

Easy choice Ruger MK2.   My son burns a lot of 22 ammo.  He had a Browing Buckmaster and he wore it out.  The recoil spring just couldn't take it.  His MK2 just says is that all you got.

My .22 auto is a S&W Model 41. Mine has the 7" barrel. Nice trigger, very accurate, grip feels very similar to a 1911. Mine is old enough that the barrel isn't drilled for the scope base, but I am thinking of puting a scope on a Clark barrel. The barrel is released by pulling down the trigger guard.

I have a custom Ruger mark-2 Shilen barrel $$$$$$ and all but I usually wind up carring my government target with a  Bushnell 2x6 arround most of the time . It has accounted for a ton (I'm streaching it a bit probably only 500 pounds) of small game . I filled a 7 gallon bucket with south Texas cotton tails in a little over an hour with this gun and WW heavy HP loads--40 grain HP. It loves that load . Most shots were close but it also punched some bunny's tickets at 65 yards with a rest --head shots . Probably one of the best 22's ruger ever made . I would stick to the Ruger or S&W. I don'rt believe you could go wrong with either , but the S&W is not stainless and small game pistols do get some abuse occasionally.

Exactly what price range are you looking?  You could go comon & ordinary and stcik with the previously mentioned or go high-end and end up with Hammerli, Pardini, Walther or something along those lines.  
  I currently use a Ruger 22/45 "greta Eight" as my .22lr autoloader.  It's more than accurate enoguh for range work and squirrels.  I'm semi-seriously looking into a high-end model but can't decide if i want to go that route yet.

I also started with a Ruger MKII. I had so many problems with it, that I traded it for a Browning Buckmark. The Buckmark is accurate, easy to clean, and easily fitted with a mount for a scope or red dot. I bought my daughter a S&W 422. She loves it, and it has been shot a lot. It's a lot lighter, but still a good shooter.

My choice is the Ruger Mark II.  I love mine.  I've got the stainless slabside competition pistol.  My Dad loved how it shot so he bought one too but blue with a bull barrel.  He also loves his.  My Dad then let one of his buddies try his.  Needless to say Ruger's stock went up again because he also purchased a blue target model.  All work flawlessly and let me tell you we shoot close to a brick of 22 shells on the weekends.
