.308 Vanguard
« on: April 19, 2011, 06:11:02 PM »
I just wanted to stop by and say how impressed i was with my new .308 vanguard, it is my first bolt gun previously i had been a h&r handi rifle fan, i got tired to dinking around trying to get them to shoot accurately and decided to opt for a bolt gun with guaranteed accuracy like the Vanguard

i looked at about 10 diff bolt guns in in the 400-500 dollar price and it was down to a tc venture and a vanguard, head to head the vanguard had better ergonomics and felt more balanced than the venture

i got it to the range with a 4-12x40 nikon prostaff scope and my first grouping out of the box was one ragged hole at 50yds using herters 150gr factory ammo. I'm sold on weatherbys for life and will probably never own another brand of bolt gun

well i too think the vangurards are good guns for the money. I own to of them. I sure would want to limit myself to only weatherby guns for the rest of my life though. Thats about like eating pizza everyday for the rest of your life ;)

Let me say, up-front, that I am a devoted Savage/Stevens fan. That said, when I was looking for a sporter weight 25/06 I wanted a 24" barrel. Savage doesn't have one. A friend had just bought a Vanguard and suggested that I look that way. My FFL guy got me one for$400 out the door. At my friend's suggestion I took the rifle to my smith for a trigger job before I did anything else.
When I was ready to shoot I used a load that was developed for my Savage 110fp. After sighting in the first group measured .663" at 100yds. I have since developed a load for the Vanguard using 110gr Accubonds. At 100yds it has(or I have) shot one hole cloverleafs several times and at 200yds it is consistantly sub-MOA. It will probably be my only Wby but it is a good one.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!!!
