Hello real muzzleloaders!
The Missouri deer season has closed and my familys tally of deer for the year is four. One with high power.......3 with Hawkens. Three bucks and one doe. The Hawkens preform as well or better than the high power in these woods, and I agree with Rollingb......if you hunt with in-lines.....you ain't hunting with me. Hey Rollingb, I converted another. My son-in-law gave his dad back his TC Black Diamond. He'll be getting a CVA St.Louis Hawken (Christmas from me) instead. He loves shooting round balls.....he can afford them. Made me very happy(my Christmas). MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL!!!

I was hunt'n with traditional-muzzleloaders before modern in-lines were ever developed,... and I wish to continue thet "tradition"!!!!

Didn't see much at all for most of the season. Finally scored on two does the last weekend. One Saturday afternoon, the other Sunday moring. Both with .54 flintlock/roundball.

I guess I don't hold the same sentiments towards the in-lines. I definitely have no personal interest in them. But as long as the existance of in-lines doesn't cause overcrowding I don't mind. In fact, in Wisconsin I wouldn't mind seeing more people use in-lines. That way, there would be more muzzle loader hunters to lobby for a better season. Right now it's the worst season Wisconsin offers.

Archers get four months, plus the rut. Rifle hunters get to go before the muzzle loaders, the rifle hunters get to go for 9 days. Muzzle loaders get only 7 days and it's immediately following the rifle season to the deer are still stirred up. So I just carry my flintlock during the regular season

Glad to see others feel as I do about inlines........might as well use a regular rifle. I got my first black powder deer today. I hunt with a .54 TC Greyhawk. True it has a stainless steel barrel and rynite stock but it is still a sidelock. I shot the deer today, a doe, at about 80 yards with a round ball. Boy, sure felt good to finally get one with the black powder..

Gentlemen,

We should never think bad of in-line rifles. I myself have found a great need - and use - for the powerful inline. Just yesterday I needed a crutch after I hurt my leg. A few days before that I needed a paddle for my canoe and an anchor when I got to where I was goin. I found that a good scope helps keep the "anchor" on the bottom.

WAY TO GO!! Ain't nothing like the feeling of hammering a deer with a Muzzleloader!! I have shot many in my life, and still get as excited as my very first one. 50's and 54's to ya'! :toast: Crowfeather, they work pretty well for prybars too...... Black Jauque, thats the way our season goes too.....seems backward to me.

I'm very fortunate to be able to hunt private property in the UP, very little pressure, and the herd is pretty well managed. I use a bow as a general rule, but got a nice little whitetail with old faithful, my .54 Hawkins percussion, this year during regular rifle season.. RR
