How much of your state does the Feds Own?
« on: March 15, 2011, 08:15:41 PM »
Many of you have heard about the Sage Brush Rebellion.  When you hear about it most just blow it off.  Well it looks like Utah is getting serious.  I was given a package with this site copied and in the package.  But the part I found most interesting was the second page with the map showing how much of each state the Federal Government owns.  Here is the link.

http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=270989

I just wanted to show you the map.  If you read the article, that OK, it just was not my intent.  Just take a look at Nevada and Alaska, then compare tham to Texas, or Iowa.
Where is old Joe when we really need him?  Alaska Independence    Calling Illegal Immigrants "Undocumented Aliens" is like calling Drug Dealers "Unlicensed Pharmacists"
What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Depressing!
The folks in Nevada are very familiar with the term Sage Brush Rebellion. Especially in the northeast quarter of the state. Sometimes with shots being fired, ranch land and stock being siezed, and people going to jail.

Notice that some of the richest energy deposits are on Fed owned land? Probably just a coincidence.
I don't have to tell you that we have been national forested, national parked, wildlife refuged and BLMed half to death.
Some people want the west to be turned into one big park/playground for city slickers to vacation in with no habitation except for government "caretakers". Huge tracts of land left to sit idle and be mis-managed by educated idiots.

How does Texas do it?

Yeah and it might be shocking to learn how many federal employees it takes to manage some of these federal lands.  I don't know what the present figure is, but a few years ago, our local newspaper ran an article about the number of federal employees involved in the management of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.  It was over 3000 people.

Yep!
And I bet it's the same old story too. Six government employees hovering around one shovel................ >:(

They "own" way too much. Government( conducting of gov't) buildings and military bases is all they are Constitutionally authorized. Why don't our states legislatures remind them of that?? Don't suppose their working together do you??

I think the map is wrong.  In Alabama there are several huge national forests covering the equivelant of several counties.  I think the map only showed about the equivelant in Alabama of the military bases and government buildings.  Knowing this, I know that Eisenhower put the 200 year supply of oil in "naval reserve" on Federal lands out west.  He created OPEC to buy up their oil first and we would still have ours.  We can't afford it now, and we need it out west and in Alaska.  Thousands of jobs with lots of new tax money coming in.  Roosevelt in the 30's bought up lots of marginal land and had trees replanted to make some of these national forests.

Ever since Kelo vs. New London the federal government owns all of the land in the US. There is no more private ownership of land in this country because it can be taken away from anybody for any reason so long as somebody wants that land and can convice the government to take it from you.

That is an excellent point and very true. Although very depressing.....................

Yep. If you own or pay property taxes, its very likely that you are listed as "tennant". If some guy came along and discovered trickalide on your property and wanted it, the gooberment could get it for him by kicking you off your property. Pretty much the same thing happened, on a state wide basis in hawaii. The gooberment took a whole nation from its peoples (native americans as well). Once again we find that "might makes right".

The government needs to be reminded every day that the government is the property of we the people.
That the government owns nothing and its only possession is the privilege granted by we the people to serve us.
That its duties are to provide for the defense of this country and its people, and to promote the general welfare of this country and its people only.
That it has no charge, moral grounds or legal defense to be charitable with property of the people.

Seriously, do you folks really want all the land around you to be posted with "No Trespassing" signs?  Ya really want to be like Texas where you can basically only hunt if you pay $$$ for a hunting lease?  NO THANKS!!!  I will keep all my public land in Idaho so I have a ton of options where I can hunt, fish and camp without paying big bucks or asking permission, thank you.

Instead of Fed land, it should be state land.......Duh!
Public state land that is controled through state legislation, is controled by the people in the state to do with as they please. Recreation, energy development and so on. Get it! If you like living under the federal thumb in Idaho fine. But I see a better way.

BTW, Do you realize how dumb it sounds to say, "I will keep all my public land....."

It's not that I have anything against public land I'm all for it.
It's the ways in which the government controls these lands that ticks me off.
When they charge for access or worse deny access to public lands they have violated a trust with the people who own the land.

I was surprised at how little land (< 2%) the Feds control in TX.   I expected it to be a much larger percentage.

....ya the states do such a stellar job with the roads, why not trust them with our public lands? ;D  But hey, someone like you who doesn't like public lands, giving them to the states makes perfect sense...  They would sell them off so you wouldn't have to worry about public lands anymore.  "Living under the federal thumb".... :o  How that pertains to outdoor recreation on federal lands is beyond me?  Is the government not allowing me to do something that I want to do?
It was fun, but I am now off to MY public land!  Have to test out some loads I built for my .35 Whelen.  Don't worry, I will be on the lookout for any federal thumbs! :P

Well obviously it's "beyond you". Evidently you have little or no experience with public land issues and know little if anything about the Sagebrush Rebellion. Are you saying you have never heard anything about federal land use restrictions? BLM restrictions? Eminent Domain, (land theft)? Restricting energy development? Are you saying that states aren't better at knowing their own needs and can't determine what is best for their own people concerning energy development, wildlife management, tourism and recreation. If so you have a very narrow view. Go ahead on out to the federal land that they allow you to use today and hope that they don't restrict it tommorrow. Since you and your neigbors have no say in the matter. Those decisions are made by enviromental lobbyists and other special interests in Washington. But don't give it any thought and have a nice day anyway!

Interesting signature line in your postings. Seems contradictary to your own views.
Knowing what I know about folks in Idaho, I wonder, do you ever feel out of place or alone there?

National forest lands are getting tougher to hunt in Alabama.  They are going to start enforcing game laws.  Can't shoot anywhere except on the firing range except shooting at game during hunting season.  Can't shoot  clays with a shotgun here.  Have to buy shooting permit to shoot at the rifle range.  Can't camp except in designated areas and they are near the roads that run through the national forest.  May be different out west.
