They are indeed good guns. I tend to like the matt finish better with out the white spacers though.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

My favorite 870s are the older ones with the small corn cob forends.

My father-in-law has a like new 870 from the early 1950s that he said I can have one day.  It's a beauty.

Swampman, I have one old magnum 12 from maybe the 70's...several others including a trap gun with beautiful wood..one of my favorites though is a new 28 ga. They are all great guns..I have had about all the modern makes of pumps on the market, plus some older ones...my old gunsmith has worked on them all..he feels the 870 is the most trouble free..I would have to agree...Nice gun you have there..

Here is one thing we can agree on Swamp!!!  870's RULE!!

I have a very nice 20 MAGNUM and a WING-MASTER 16 both have very nice wood and look like yours!!

The 20 was bought from a duck hunter who sold it when we had to use steel and the 20 proved inadequate for him. It was covered with that camo spray paint. Looked WELL used!! But the price was right so I grabbed it. SO GLAD I DID!!! The gun has a couple dings but over all the "paint" was the removable kind and came off with just a bit of elbow grease. It revealed a very nice gun!! The only bad is the full choke. But it does a number of high flying crows with 1 1/4oz of #6 from a 3" Nitro Mag shell!!!

I have a couple "EXPRESS" Matt finished guns I use for duck hunting and harder uses.

I also have a Super magnum 3 1/2 for the turkeys and high flying geese. It's quite a thumper and dethroned my Ithaca 10Ga auto for geese.

I also very much like the special field 870 Rem put out a number of years ago. I have a beautiful set, of 20 and a 12.

I also lucked into a police buyout and bought a bunch of patrol car guns when a local dept sold them off to "upgrade". I still have two of the nicest ones, GREAT HOUSE GUNS!!!

Along with my 1911's its one gun I will NEVER be without at least one!!!

;) Swampman You mentioned a 16 ga,  I have only ever owned one it was an old double..do you see 16 ga. 870's in you area often..???? The newer ones were made on the 12 ga. frame I think..I am interested in an older one..I have always heard the south was the home of the 16 ga..

My older brother bought me my first 870 Wingmaster 3" mag with 30" Full in 1972 I still have the gun but had to buy an after market barrel (hastings) with screw in chokes to shoot steel I have 3 other Wingmasters another 12 a 20 and a 410.

One year during duck season while still shooting the 870 3" I wanted to see if I could go thru a whole season without cleaning the inside, I shot over 200 ducks that year and never cleaned the gun.

The fallowing year I wanted to see how long it would go period about same number of ducks, I went 1 season and about 4 weeks into the next when the maginizne tube would not feed simple brush down it fixed it other then the barrel change out the only $$$ I have put into the gun was a broken mag latch and extractor and 3 can's of cammo paint.

Still take it as a back up gun for my 2-11/87
Remember it's where the first bullet goes out of a cold barrel that counts most.

Here's my 16 Gauge.  As you can see the "limb chickens" don't have a chance.

A 16 Ga. 870 is about as good as it gets. I don't know why the 16 isn't more popular.
