17 HMR in a Super 14 barrel
« on: December 23, 2003, 12:50:38 PM »
Anyone had luck with this combo?  I like rimfire for some reason and am thinking of getting a Super 14 barrel to try out this round.  What experience have those on this list had with this?

I have one that is a real tack driver. On a calm day it will easily print 3/4" 100meter groups. I have it set up with a 4x14x40 rifle scope so it's pretty much a bench gun. Still a lot of fun to shoot. Also have an 18" carbine that shoots as well.  KN

I have a 16" 17HMR out of Bullberry. Its a freakin hoot to shoot!!!!!
Have not found a scope that I like on it yet. Although I recently saw a BSA that is set up for the 17HMR, I will pick one up soon and try it.

I am shooting one with 2.5-7 pistol scope on it.  It will easily do under an inch at 100 yards.  Actually it is so accurate and easy to shoot because of its lack of recoil that it is kinda boring.

One of the most accurate and most FUN barrels I've ever had.  In the last year I've probably shot it more than all other barrels combined.  Go for it...you'll LOVE it.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt   :)  :)  :)

Just a footnote that I forgot a minute ago.....My 14" barrel shoots within 100fps of my 22" barreled H&R Sportster....same ammo...same chrono....same time...same everything.  I was amazed.  I forget the exact numbers, but the Sportster was right at Hornady's numbers.
If you like exploding crows get you one of these.  ,  Walt

Sounds like it is a go.  I have been poking the packages under the tree to see if any feel like a barrel box, but so far no luck.  If Santa doesn't cooperate tonight then I predict an early 2004 purchase.  I have a fresh scope mount, scope and hanger bar all shined up and ready to install.

Thanks guys and happy Holidays to all.  This is a great campfire to sit around!
