My ultraclassic needs a battery and one of my friends at work said the gel is the way to go. Thoughts?

I could not find a gel cell battery last year when I needed a new battery so I don't know how good they are. Fact is in the bush where I live I could not find the right size anything for my bike. Bought 4 before I fineally found the one that fit right.  :o

I useds to get them from the dealer, then I started using diehards. They seemed to last a little longer. A friend of mine recommended gel batteries. He said they are guaranteed for like 7 years. They are more expensive than regular batteries though. I'm wondering if it is worth the extra expense.

how much more expensive? 7 years is incredible for a bike batt. but even if it fails at 4 yrs they will jus prorate it and giv yu 3 years worth off a new batt.
oh and as a side note, dont bother trying to push start a electra glide in a motel parking lot.dont ask me how i know. jus buy that battery!

i now carry two lengths of 12 gauge wire with gator clips just for such occasions. at that particular time i ended up walking a mile and back to a oreillys and buying a lawn mower battery and jumpin the glide off it.it had enuf juice to fire just not enuf to crank fast.why in the hell they ever stopped putting kick start on harleys is beyond me? i miss my old shovel!

Mine ('03 Guzzi California) has a big gel cell on it when I got the bike. No problems, but I've only had it a little over a year. If you have electronic (no points) ignition, and the battery is too low to use the electric start, you probably can't start it with a kicker OR push it, anyway. That's why even the small bikes don't have kickstarters anymore.

yes this is true, i believe a modern harley has to have 9.5 volts to start even when run off a big hill.when i was push starting my glide it still had enuf juice to start i just didnt have juice to push it fast enuf to turn it over fast enuf. my 79 honda xl 250 didnt even have a battery in it for years.it ran just fine but turn signals would not work.my 81 honda cm400t if i remember rite, even tho it didnt have a kicker was little enuf i could push it to start with a dead battery.oh what progress we have made lol.
