Reportedly from an Augusta newspaper..

  I was told this article was in an Augusta newspaper, please confirm or deny.  Report didn't indicate Georgia, Maine or any other state..:



           "Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Georgia, told police he observed a male customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveillance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket... When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.

Outside on the sidewalk were four Marines collecting toys for the "Toys for Tots" program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of the Marines, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, in the back, the injury did not appear to be severe.

After Police and an ambulance arrived at the scene Cpl. Duggan was transported for treatment. The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw...injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off of the curb after stabbing the Marine."

It said Georgia. If you Google those two names together, you see this story on forums like this all over the internet.
But if you do a search of those names together or separately on the site of the local paper, The Augusta Chronicle, no hits like this.
Sounds ike the story of the sheriff who commented on why his men shot a cop killer 66 times; Because thats all the bullets we had.

I just pulled up the article from the Augusta Chronicle and it said the Marine's name was Cpl Phillip Duggan,  and the perp's name was Tracey Attaway, 39, from Waynesboro, GA.

“A Marine collecting Toys for Tots donations at Augusta’s Best Buy was stabbed in the back Friday while helping to subdue a shoplifting suspect.
                                                                                                                                             
Fellow Marines identified the injured man as Cpl. Phillip Duggan, 24, who spent part of Black Friday recuperating at Eisenhower Army Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Tracey Attaway, 39, of Waynesboro, Ga., was jailed and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a knife in the commission of a crime.

Orvin Smith, a sales manager at Best Buy, said the incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. when a man was seen on surveillance videos placing a laptop under his jacket.  Store staff asked Attaway to return the merchandise, and the situation began to escalate.

“He was really irate.  A whole lot of energy. … he finally let go of the laptop, ran out the front door, knocked one of my employees down and pulled out a knife so he could make sure he could get out the front door,” Smith said.

Outside the door were four Marines and seven volunteers collecting donations for Toys for Tots.

“(Duggan) clotheslined him, and after that he kind up got up and started swinging a knife around,” Smith said.

Gunnery Sgt. Robert Richie said Attaway “came over the top and got (Duggan) in the back.”

Attaway ran again but didn’t get far before Richie, several other Marines and members of the store’s loss-prevention team tackled him in the parking lot and held him until deputies arrived.

Gunnery Sgt. Sherry Barrera, who also serves as the Toys for Tots coordinator, opted to close operations for the day.

“When a Marine gets injured, we just shut it down, go to the hospital, make sure he’s OK and make sure he gets proper treatment,” she said.

Barrera said Duggan joined the unit about three months ago.  Although she has had the opportunity to drill with Duggan only a few times, she said she had heard wonderful things about him.

“My boss, who has served with him before, did say he was an outstanding Marine,” Barrera said.

According to Richmond County authorities, Attaway also tried to steal two digital cameras, an Xbox game, a PS3 game and a PS3 game controller with a combined value of $1,365.”

This is a serious question: What kind of disciplinary action did the marines face for doing this? There had to be something.

It just never ceases to amaze me the degree of injuries that you can receive by tripping on the sidewalk.He should be thankful that those Marines were there to help him up.

   Right Conan;
  If I were their CO, I would institute disciplinary action immediately, there would be 3 points of action..
 
 1) Each Marine would be advanced one pay grade.

 2) Each Marine would be given a 30 day TDY to their hometown... (no charge against leave time)..

 3) Each Marine would be required to teach a class on restraining perps until local police arrive.



   BTW:   Some cop did a good job with that police repoprt !

I'm sorry to see a Marine get hurt, that had to have happened in the confusion, but It's too bad that the confusion didn't last long enough for the perp to accidentaly fall on his knife. As far as a suit goes and the fact that the scumbag will probably win it, that just goes to show how far this country has gone down the tubes, We need to dig up Gudge Roy Bean or the likes and see if he lived long enough to sue. Those d@mn bleeding heart liberal sons of female dogs, have to be stopped before this country is lost alltogether..........steg

This did happen in Georgia right. Has the south east changed? I thought those states are a lot like Wyoming. If he tried a suit here he would be wasting his time.
