What type of Government are we?
« on: March 21, 2011, 05:14:44 AM »

The founding fathers gave us a Republic, and had doubts about us being able to keeping it.
We have been quite successful in living up to that doubt.

I like what Fred Reed has to say about the Government, or what poses as one!

We are ruled not by a government but by a class. Here the
media is crucial. Unless you spend time outside of America, you may
not realize to what extent the press is controlled. The press is
largely free, yes, but it is also largely owned by a small number of
corporations which, in turn, are run by people from the same pool
from which are drawn high-level pols and their advisers. They are
rich people who know each other and have the same interests. It is
very nearly correct to say that these people are the government of
the United States, and that the federal apparatus merely a useful
theatrical manifestation.

What type of Government are we?
+1 nw

I would also say that we are a mixed economy; part socialist and part capitalist.  Obamacare, Medicare Drug Plan, the bailouts, welfare, corporate welfare, etc. are all socialist policies. A mixed economy is the most unstable.

I would also say that we are a central planned economy. When the Fed sets interest rates, stimulates with printed money, this distorts prices and credit in the entire market. Central planning has been proven a failed policy by many countries such as USSR.

Good post and good responses.

As far as the press' slant, that is why a part of my news is done online with BBC and CFP. Both give outsiders views, looking in. That perspective helps to balance the slanted stuff we hear here. IMO of course.

I'm always amazed at how the plutocrats can get the people to turn against each other, and willingly relinguish rights and benefits...That must be the topic of some pretty good jokes down at the club or lodge on Friday night.
Isn't that the purpose of the two party system?

Among other things, media, economics, conflicts, conser vs lib dialectics; the purpose of the 2 Party system is to take the citizen's eye off the ball on matters that really concern them.... 8) that's the purpose of politics... :D

It works very well too!  ;D

We are a representive rebublic.
And unfortunatly the free and open society we are leaves us open to being over run.
The press is biased and always has been.  Since the 60's you can see that the Press has moved to sway opinion rather than inform.
If you look at the communist play book, get hold of the news outlets and the education system.
The left has done both and people are too dumb to understand what is going on and the news people are riding the leftist socialist adgenda.  You can see that thye are surpised when one of thier silly ideas does not win at the ballot box or is challanged as unconstitutional.

What kind of government do we have?  I don't know.  My guess, organized crime?   >:(
