I bought a Model 10 Whitetail in .308 (looks like the predator) about 4 or 5 years ago. I broke the barrel in with 180 gr Remingtons with groups being okay for hunting. I bought it with the intention of using it with cast bullets for competition and hunting. Yesterday I slugged the barrel and was shocked at the demensions I got, so shock I slugged each end twice and measured with both dial calipers and a micrometer. The throat started at .311 and quickly tapered down to .3068 groove - .301 bore. The muzzle end miked .3073 groove and .302 bore. It seems to me they chambered the wrong end of the barrel blank. Those demensions are terrible for cast bullet accuracy only because the muzzle end is larger than the throat, the undersize I can deal with. I know I can firelap it to try to reverse the taper so that the throat area is larger. I'm just a little leery about ruining the barrel. Anyone else with a similar situation? Any suggestions?
