Ole LT had a little mishap tonight !!!
« on: March 24, 2011, 07:44:29 PM »
Now for one of those older, stupid moments in life.  :P

Went to help coach the little league team this evening at 5:30.
All was going well until about 6:00.
We were doing some basic fly ball drills and I was catching up for the head coach when one of the boys relaid a ball in to me that was an easy catch.
The only problem was I didn't catch it with my glove.
They always say, Keep your eye on the ball, and that is exactly what I did, right up to the moment of impact.
Right in my left eye.
Went down hard with blood going everywhere.
I am on BP meds so I bleed quit easily.
I soaked two standard face towels in a matter of minutes.
By the time I got to my truck it was purple and swelled almost shut.
Punched a hole through the eye lid and cut my brow.
Put a bunch of bandages on it and some tape and went back on the field.
About twenty minutes latter I figured I better head home while I could still see a little out of both eyes.
Made it home fine.
My wife was getting groceries and then was going to pick up the youngest son from his HS baseball practice.
The head coach called her on her cell to see how I was.
I hadn't called her yet and you know how that went.
She got home around 8:00 and we spent the next three hours in the ER getting stitched up.
All is fine with no pain but looks like crap.
It is almost completely black now and about twice as big as it was when I got home.
Hope I will be able to see out of it tomorrow as we are to drive down and pick up the oldest son from college and swing by his girlfriends college and get her on the way back.
Today, Friday the 25th is his 19th birthday.
Really would hate to miss having him home for it.
I tell you, I have been busted up more coaching ball then all the years of rodeo riding, racing, tractor pulling and fighting all put together.
I guess I just ain't a young kid anymore!  :D
Oh well, it's a long ways from my heart to kill me.

I don't know who made up that phrase, "the Golden Years", but they must have been selling something.
Getting old stinks! In my head, I'm not ready to slow down. I keep trying to out do what I'm capable of doing physically. I have to make a conscious effort to slow myself down or I will crash and burn. My mind and reflexes are just not what they used to be. My body is sure feeling the effects of my wild and wooly days too!................... :-\

I have a sign hanging in my living room that says screw the golden years. An old woman gave it to me years ago. She said someday you will understand this. I do understand it now.

Glad you are ok.
The golden years means anything you do will cost gold to fix.
Also +1 on coaching. I really believe the importance of being involved with the youth today cannot be stressed enough.

Oh the memories.  Pulled a similar stunt some time back.  Coaching Little League.  I was pitching to give the boys some batting practice.  One guy got ALL the wood on one which caught me off balance and I took a hit in the left ear.  Cut the ear half off and made me goofier than before for a bit.  The kid got sore at me for getting in the way of what would have been the hit of the day.  ::)  Hope you heal up just fine and nothing but your pride is harmed.  When will we ever learn? ;)           NEVER! ;D

LT, nice shiner. Last time I had one that good was '76 or'77, when I was involved in a bar fight. Guy thru a sucker punch that just about floored me. (will never know why he did that, as 3 months later, he was meet by a jealous husband with a 12 gauge at his ''girlfriends'' front door) Hope you get to feeling better. gypsyman

If it was me, I would tell people that I had an altercation with a big young ball player and that afterwards he felt worse than I did. I would leave out  the details if I could. It's not lying. It's just being vague.  ;)

What can I say?.......I'm not growing old gracfully............. ;D

Glad your okay! And besides, you look double tuff with that shiner. That's a beauty!
