Congrats on the find. They are a great rifle.
IIRC Paul Matthews, a prolific writer a dozen years ago had written up some info on it. His articles were in Handloader and Rifle magazines, mostly. That might be a good place to start.

Paul has several books out, and I know one covers the @30-40 Krag round! I believe he mentioned the 220 gr SP.

Great old caliber.  I shoot a rebarrled military action Krag.  Don't load it to hot, use 45 grains of IMR 4350, with 150 - 165 grain bullets.  That is enough for me, deer shot with it go down.  Mostly use cast 200 grain bullets with 4198 or 4579 powder, just fun to shoot.  The light cast loads allow lots of practice.  Not knocking the magnums, but for fun I'll take my Krag.  Your Ruger should allow much more freedom in the way of load development.

For heavier than standard loads Hodgdon's #25 load book has a seperate section for the Ruger #3 30-40. The Lyman reloading book has jacketed and cast loads for it also. HTH.
