OT: The Mature Collector
« on: March 23, 2011, 02:40:13 PM »
Ive recently revisited another interest and a statement within seemed apt for this forum.
In short, it characterizes the 'mature collector' as one who can be satisfied with one very nice example of (his passion).
I feel so guilty.......
What must I do to atone for my indulgence?

frgerald can help you.  He's the Patron Padre of Handiholicism.  He's been there, done that, got the shirt, got the hat.  He'll fix you, but it might take a half dozen Handi buys.  I don't know if there is a cure for it.  We'll all pray for you (that you find good Handis).

Duffers don't play with one club.  I think you need a full set of "clubs" in order to play the Handi/firearm game.  Do not however, apply this prinicple to women as it can be very dangerous and expensive. :o

Who the heck are you referring to as "mature"?  I still haven't decided what I'm gonna do when I grow up.  Goatwhiskers

TIS, TIS - Once you cross the magic line there is no turning back, you can't be cured.
Since you are already terminal you may as well indulge with the time you have left.
We will all pray, but I really don't think it will do any good.
Don't try to go it alone.
There are to many of us for just a few to try and bare the burden.
I suggest you stay in contact with members that are in the same boat.
There are quit a few who have ended up here on GBO, myself included who have this affliction.
It is nearly impossible to say no to, although I have lately, been able to abstain on a few occasions.
I think the only reason is that there is very little left for me to acquire in my lust for the inevitable.
I have heard of a small percentage who were not yet at that line that were able to convert back to their former glory, (if you can call a life without Handis glory), but I don't think they are doing so well.
Don't dispare and don't feel guilty.
This is a very long lasting affliction with very mild pain.
Infact, there are times when it is down right enjoyable!
For those of us that don't even remember when we crossed the line, like Tim (QUICKDTOO and myself, along with a few others)
it has become so intwined in our everyday lives that we hardly notice it anymore.
You too, may get there someday.
Don't fight it.
If it happens, so be it.
There are far worse things that could bestowe you than a case of Handiholicism.
Just remember, we are always here to help!!!

The best one is the next one, but I still love the older ones too.  Handi rifles, that is.  The 35 whelen has broken my heart, more than once, but I still take her back.  And just who you calling mature?  Age and wisdom abound on this site, maturity I'm not so sure about!

Guess that makes most of us 'immature collectors,' as in 'not brought to an end or to the desired final state.'  I'm okay with that! ;D

I have been working on a fix for a while, and the only solution I can think of is for you all to send all the extra Handis you don't need to me, care of Lees Summit, MO! ;D

Well, I guess that kinda makes us all "Hoarders" don't it ?
Most of us only have two hands, can't shoot more than two at a time and then ya gotta reload, why have more than two of these guns ????? Just don't make good sence......  ::)          LoL       "PJ"

Actualy I think that refers to One  of each calibre, then , one of each stock type in each calibre, then, one of each stock material, in each calibre of course , then..........  you see these experts are so vague, they realy should explain it better. Like we do here.

Well... we could go the 'specific' route.  Be selective.  Have only one special Handi for each purpose.  I have the bug for rimmed cartridges only, so 30-30 variants, a 45LC carbine and just yesterday a 45-70 barrel.  I guess then I should get a 22 hornet and a 38-55 next.  How many do I have to have to be a 'member'..?

OOPS... forget the .357 maxi, and the...
Think as if you LIFE depends on it... IT does..!  Be Well...
