Is a Winchester Ranger actually rollmarked "Ranger"?
« on: March 23, 2011, 04:47:11 AM »
Mine says 94AE. But I think it is a Ranger Compact.  It is a 16" 30-30 with a crossbolt and no saddlering (ie not a Winchester Trapper) and 12.5" LOP matches the description of the Compact. Problem is these things are rare enough that I cannot find any rollmark pictures on Gunbroker or similar sites.

Closest thing that I can find, and this is the later tang safety version.

All the Rengers I've seen were marked Ranger, even a M70 featherweight marked Ranger. It was in a lightweight stock in birch in caliber 243.  Other companies have used the Ranger appleation but winchester seems enamored with it..
