Handi vs Gator
« on: March 28, 2011, 10:23:22 AM »
Was watchin' Swampmen last night on the tube and a couple of folks was trying to shoot a swimming gator with a 22LR.  They decided the gator was too far away for their rimfire so they rearmed.  Out of the gun case came a blue/synthetic 444M Handi with a scope!  I was waiting too see what this gun would do to a large reptile but the shooter missed and the gator swam away. :P  May next time.

And they usually hit that "quarter size" target  while the gator is  thrashing and spinning aroud in the water.

That .444 was a bit overkill me thinks.  If you gotta shoot one a ways off a hornet would be just the ticket although I have yet to have one not give up the ghost to a 22lr.  Cool show but gonna make it tougher on us up here in the northern parrt of LA.  Our gator hunt is by lottery which has been a pretty well kept secret.  This show done made everybody think they a gator hunter and got 10x as many people applying for tags now ::)  I put my better half in too this year.  Maybe between the two of us ill get lucky again
You never know when ya got too much gun, but ya dang sure know when ya aint got enough!

Jason,

Sounds like the gators in N. LA will be dining on newbie hunter arms next season. :o

When in Florida, a neighbor of mine had gators raiding his ducks, chickens and piglets back years ago.  We shined them and I shot 3 seven plus footers between the eyes with a .30-30...end of problem.
