HI STANDARD MILITARY HD PROBLEMS
« on: April 03, 2011, 03:39:48 PM »
I JUST PURCHASED A MILITARY HD SERIAL #277XXX AND AM HAVING SOME PROBLEMS.ROUNDS FEED INTO THE CHAMBER FINE BUT GUN FAILS TO FIRE ABOUT 50%OF THE TIME.SLIDE WILL CYCLE AND COCK THE HAMMER ,PULL TRIGGER AND HAMMER DROPS BUT ROUND DOESN'T GO OFF.IF YOU RE-COCK HAMMER THEN IT FIRES FINE FOR A FEW SHOTS TILL THIS HAPPENS AGAIN.PISTOL HAS BEEN THOROUGHLY CLEANED AND THE MAGAZINE WORKS FINE,JUST CAN'T GET IT TO RELIABLY GO OFF. ANY THOUGHTS OR SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

I think Trade Count nailed it.  Sounds like a tired main spring.

Make sure there isn't any piled up hardened gunk preventing the firing pin from making full forward travel. The tip could be worn, who knows how many rounds have gone through it?!
Good old guns, I shot Bullseye competition some 25ish years ago with one and scored quite well.

Also might be a burred firing pin from dry firing.
