I use both a LW and a RW helical in the same Bitzenburger frame with no problems. Done so for too many years to remember...

I'm not into archery but do have a crossbow with a number of short aluminum shafts that need fletching.
Since the shafts ride in a groove I am thinking a straight 4 small vane fletch would be more suitable then any helical type. Am I even close to the right path on this ??

Definitely straight fletch  scatter though it could be fun to see how a helical would fair in the groove of a crossbow ;D

LW feather in a RW jig or vice versa will not allow the base of the feather to lay in a relaxed position. You force it and be frustrated but why?

Just to clarify, I think your saying to keep LW feathers in a LW clamp and RW feathers in a RW clamp. I will add that either is OK in a straight clamp. But otherwise, YES, I agree with you. Don't use RW feathers in a LW CLAMP or visa versa. Keep right in a right and left in a left.

The Jig (Part with the magnet) is neither R or L, its both. It fits right, left and straight clamps equally well, its universal for all.

I have been using rt wing feathers in lt helical now for almost 20 years. Yes, it can be a pain to do but there is a benefit. They will still  stand tall when they get wet :). Try it and see. Had to convince the arrowsmith when I ordered custom arrows but he did try it and saw the difference. May not be a big deal to some but I don't have to mess with waterproofing for my feathers. Just my opinion and as always different  strokes. ;D
