Bill: I've looked at those conversions and have discussed them with one of our other members and have wondered just how effective a conversion it would be.
To give you some indication of the differences in length and possible feeding problems with the 7.62x25 in the 38 Super, 9x23 Winchester or 9mm largo, try loading the 25mm full loaded rounds into either a 38 Super or 9x23mm (Largo) magazine. I can't get any more than 3 rounds of the 25mm ammo into either a 38 Super or 9mm Largo magazine.
There aren't any caveats given about the conversions but I will bet you will need to deep seat the bullets in the Tok cases before you could get a magazine full and I don't know what that would do to pressures, although I don't think it would make much difference in a 1911 with a thick barrel hood.
I would ask Ron Reed for his input on the conversions and see what he has to say. I believe he has been working on something like this for a while, and this may be the result of his efforts, or I would be interested in seeing if he thinks it is a workable conversion.
I know you can purchase aftermarket barrels for the 7.65/30 Luger cartridge for both the 1911 and the Browning P-35 High Power, and I wish I could find one for a P-38 (and if anyone knows where please clue me in..and thanks..) and in those handguns you can load that cartridge to a more respectable level than the old toggle action Lugers (p-08s) would handle, but I would still Check with Ron Reed for his input.
In fact - Hey Ron - You out there to talk about this?
? Mikey.
