Not to many places here in Westchester,I found it is less money to go to mail order catalogs sometimes even with the shipping.One store it was less money to order powder and primers through the mail,with the hazmat fee and shipping,then buying at the store.

Walmart for cheap hunting ammo, gun shows or internet for Russian steel case, Cabelas when they have a sale. The key with ammo is finding what you want, waiting for a deal, and stacking it cheap and deep. Buying 20 rounds here and there is a waste of $ if you shoot a lot.

I purchase off the net.  I use Midsouth, Natchez, Cabelas and Sportsman's Guide as majopr sources.  Although nys passed that damn law that taxes internet purchases I still get better deals than at the local stores and since all the stores are within the city limits I simply will not spend my $ to support the city.

I have also found it necessary to order powder, bullets and primers from the net sources as nobody in the city carries them - too many nys laws regarding powder storage................

    Guys;
  Let's share info on catalog or online ammo shipping costs. I have held off on ordering such ammo because I figured the shipping would kill any price advantage. How about some "for instance" information? Who have you ordered from and what did the shipping cost?

ironglow:  I have ordered from Cabelas, MidSouth and Natchez.  From Natchez I order half a dozen boxes of 38 Spl to shoot through a Rossi made M92 - fmj bullets, std velocity, inexpensive shootin' stuff.  From MidSouth I have ordered Hastings Shotgun Slugs for the Hastings barrel on my 870 (could not find them anywhere else although my local gunshop now stocks the stuff for twice the i-net price.  Cabelas has shipped me rifle ammo for my 8mm (S&B) and some Rooshin 9mm, and even with shipping and taxes it was less than local.

I buy some stuff from Midsouth..loading equip, bullets etc, but have long shyed away from ammo & powders, figuring the hazmat shipping would be high.
   Powders, primers & ammo I have been getting from local gunshops...if I can't find what I want a Walmart, who has the best local prices.

I haven't purchased factory ammo ,except shotgun, in years.I load all my own .I get my brass free at the range,and buy my components on the net.If you buy enough powder,or primers at one time the hasmat fee isn't any big deal. Graf & sons doesn't charge shipping, and powder valley , has some of the best prices on powder and primers if you buy in quantity.For factory ammo ther is the ammo man  or ables,among others.

Blackhorn 209 at Beikirch's in Rochester, about $28
Black powder at Powder Inc., online. Best price I've found, 5, 10, 25 lb. discount
58 Cal. Minie bullets at S/S Firearms (NY), online. Best price, high quality. The ones I bought were already sized.
Sabots at Ineedmoregear.com, or Wholesalehunter.com, best prices for Hornady SST-ML low drag, 250 grain

I don't live in NY but ya'll might consider a trip South. A long days drive but if ya'll carpool and say hit a few stores or a gun show like the "nations gun show" you can get deals . If you come down the coast to Norfolk / Va. beach area you can get super deals at the Armory . Check out the Armory on line , you can order and have shipped or pick up an order and know it will be waiting. Greentop sporting goods is anothe just off I 95. in Va. If you have a GPS just get to Va. and put in gun stores, gun shops , sporting goods etc its amazing the number of stores that will come up. I mention this because there are over 100 stores that sell ammo with in a couple hr drive from where I live maybe 500 if you include the country stores and walmarts. With competition like that ammo prices stay low most of the time .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

12ga slugs I pick up at Dicks, CCI 22 SV either at Dicks or Beikirchs in East Rochester. I reload for everything else. Cast bullets I order from Missouri Bullet, everything else I buy from Beikirchs.

I usually purchase from Wal-Mart, Buffalo Gun Center and Gander Mtn. on the local front...I have ordered 7-30 Waters rounds off the net from Reeds Ammunition and Research...Cheaper for them to make me up some that for me to purchase the factory stuff.  If I reloaded, I would make my own but I am not set up to do that yet.  I wouldn't normally purchase ammo from Gander but the other day I found some AE 223 55gr FMJ stuff on sale for $29.99 per box of 100 with a $5 per box rebate.  I bought 4 boxes and sent in my rebate form...$24.99 per box is not all that bad.  Could do better at Natchezs but then I would have shipping...
