.22 mag conversions for Contender
« on: March 15, 2011, 02:47:20 AM »
Anyone tried the conversion insert for the .22 mag in the .223rem
Thought it might be a quick fix since finding a used barrel seems useless.
Seen them on several auction sites about $20
Would like some input
thanks

I bought the conversion to shoot 22 hornet in the .223 rem.  I am in Uruguay at my hunting lodge.  I am asking my brother in VA to try it out.  I'll post how it does.

Chamber adapters have been thouroughly discussed many times on this forum.   As one who has had a lot of different configurations of them for many years for both TC's and rifles I've posted to probably all of them.     A search will find them.

You might also check out MCS Sports in Alaska as the 3-4 company that has owned and produced maybe the best known of them.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

From what I understand there are no rifelings in them and this leaves you with a long jump for the bullet and after firing you must remove and punch case out to reload as there is no extractor at least that is what I found so I just forgot the thing. I have been on the hunt for a mag barrel for months and no luck even Eds contender does not have any and I have looked at all the gun shows for the last 6 months. Ed had a rifle barrel listed on his sight but it had been sold and site not updated in months.

If you just want to make noise they're great. I bought a 223 to 22wmr off e bay for under twenty bucks hoping to get another caliber going for just a few bucks. First trip to the range was all it took to realize I wasn't going to be happy with it. I was getting random hits all over an 8 inch target at about 50 feet. Maybe some are better than others, but honestly I should have put my money toward ammo or another barrel.

If you reload 22 mag velocities are easy to get from a 223.
XLI the one to go with.
