Shot the Super Blackhawk today.
« on: March 06, 2011, 10:06:25 AM »
I shot the Super Blackhawk today using 240 grain Winchester bullets and was pleasantly surprised.
I bought it yesteday for $400.  The only thing is that the trigger guard hits my middle finger when I shoot it.  I have a set of Pachmayr grips coming, so maybe that will solve the problem.  I'm very pleased with it.  I guess this pistol will be around for a while.

I have an Old Model Super Black Hawk that I have had for many, many years. When I first got it, the trigger guard beat up my knuckle, also. A set of Pachmayr's solved that problem for ever more.

This is a EXCELLENT revolver. I have shot thousands of .44 Magnum full loads over the years. It is quite accurate and has required NO maintenance except for normal cleaning.

You have made an excellent choice in revolvers.

Never liked that trigger guard and pachmyers didn't feel good to me.  I wish they made it with the round trigger guard.  I shoot some hot and heavy loads in my 45 blackhawk convertible and don't have an issue.  I got a SRH just so I could shoot 44's without the pain.  I'm glad you like it.

What's the difference between Redhawks and Blackhawks?

Redhawk double action and blackhawk single action.  The blackhawk is a knuckle beater without the Pachmayr grips :(  I would have liked to try the hogue grips but the Pachmayr grips work fine.  I like the uncle mike shooting gloves for the blackhawk with full power loads.  Have fun!

Good luck,

I have owned quite a few Blackhawks and one Super Blackhawk. The Pachmayer grips will take care of the problem. Even with heavyweight 320's in the 44 Magnum and 335 grain loads in the 45 Colt.

I thought the squared off trigger guard was an attempt to fox the finger bashing. It was supposed to provide a little more room for the finger.

The Super Blackhawk trigger guard works for me. I shot a Blackhawk in .44 mag some and just quit shooting it because that round trigger guard beat up my finger so bad. When the Super Blackhawk showed up I bought one and haven't had a swelled up, sore finger since. Looks like I am going to have to try a set of Pachmayr grips though as I've developed some arthritis in my hand and the factory grips are getting hard to hang on to.
