Scope mount for FA 252 22LR
« on: March 30, 2011, 12:08:02 PM »
Can anyone recommend a scope mount for a FA 252 22LR?

I am looking a picking up a 252 revolver on a trade, and it comes with (very nice) silhouette sights.  I'd rather a scope setup to take full advantage of the revolver's accuracy though.  Groups I shot with the silhouette sights off a sandbag rest were promising.

Thanks for any info.

If it's the large model 22 with more than 7" of barrel, I'd think you'd be better off staying light. Also, don't see the need for multiple rings as there isn't recoil to distribute--maybe the Lovell. May seem pricey but it's machined well, fits snug, and the rings integrated in the base make mounting easy. See the FA site for details--good luck

Thanks Benny, that is helpful.  The rings advertized on the FA site are pretty expensive, especially for use on a 22 :)

MidwayUSA lists a Leupold scope base for about $20, with matching rings for about $25.  Has anyone had experience with the Leupold bases on FA revolvers?

Thanks!

Pretty certain the crafting of that '252' 22 wheel gun is no less than that of it's larger brethren. Now, you don't want to just slap a chunk of metal on there, right?

You have chosen a high quality firearm that was probably originally sold at quite a premium relative to what your trading for. Your probably already familiar with the extent to which Freedom Arms stands by its products. Sure, it's stated that your Premier's warranty is to the original owner, experiences are usually that the company is fair. When the owner of the company, Bob Baker, addresses clients questions about their products online, their integrity is really displayed. Though the $130-ish dollar cost of the mount is expensive, in my opinion, its the right choice.

When it comes down to it any of the typical mounts will probably work out just fine for you. I tell you what, if you send a pic on this forum once you get it, I'll send you my Leupold scope and mount as a courtesy--just send me a few dollars for shipping costs. I have since sold my handgun scopes so its just sitting in a case. I preferred this model in the past as it's weight allowed me to get more comfortable shooting the 500,and 454 for that matter, with hotter loads. My only request is that if you don't end up liking it, or end up buying the Lovell, send it back to me.

I just took a photo of the Leupold mount/rings with my phone but unfortunately jpeg isn't supported. Feel free to write me if you'd like me to e-mail the photo to you.

Benny,  thank you, that is very decent of you.  Here is the gun in question:

I have decided to get it, as it is the nicest 22 I have ever shot.

Nice, the 10", right? Chamber style? I don't know what kind of shooter you are but a nice variable 2.5-8x would make a menacing combo. The only issue, for me, is the weight--but i suppose that is a personal issue. Very envious.

IMHO Considering the weight of a FA 252 with 10 inch barrel the additional weight of a quality scope will be insignificant.   I've used the Leupold, Lovell, and T"SOB on my FAs.   The Leupold looks like something stuck on top of the gun..  The Lovell looks like a properly integrated addition.  The T'SOB looks good and provides the most flexibility in scope positioning...  My first chioce?  T'SOB..

Leupold mount and rings fit very nicely on the 252.  I shoot mine with the open sights.  Will shoot 1" groups at 100 yards if I do my part.  Most of the time I don't tho.... :(

If you want to have a real shooter, get the Leupold 2.5x8 pistol scope.  Send it to Leupold and they can put a target turret on the elevation that is calibrated to your ammo/velocity.  Would make for a very very VERY nice package.

IMO !  the ssk mount gives you the most options for mounting different scopes  to obtain optimin  mounting flexablity / position . as it has 4 cross slots for scope ring positioning.
The fixed ring spacing on the leupold & lovell are very limiting when mounting scopes. Another option may be the weigand ?
