Rocket science? Hard primers.
« on: April 13, 2011, 01:31:27 PM »

Dear Guys,

OK, I'm here to rant, and since you guys are the smartest single shot folks I know, I'll put the question to you. :-)

Why is it considered to be "rocket science" for a gun company to make a single shot rifle (whether an H&R, Rossi, on anybody else)  in 7.62 Russian, that can reliably fire a hard-primer military round?

I mean REALLY ????  How hard could this be????

How bout a stronger hammer spring? Or a flatter point on the pin?  Or a titanium pin?

     What gives?

mannyroc k, I've wondered the exact same thing.  I have a Handi in 7.62x39 that shoots everything I feed it, from junk Russian to the best American and have never had a FTF.  I know the problem exists, and I don't see why a tougher spring wouldn't fix it.  I bought a bunch of Wolf primers when there was nothing else available.  I have had no FTFs with those either in several calibers.

Rossi has a 7.62x39 available.  I have read similar things about their gun, where some users have had problems with primers and failure to fire, why other's seem to be fine.  Knowing that milspec ammo is out there, and their customers would likely use it, you would think that companies would beef up the necessary components to ensure reliable ignition.  IF the Chinese can make an SKS that is as reliable as the sun rising with this ammo, a simple single shot ought to be no problem.
