Help with new purchase?
« on: April 05, 2011, 04:53:16 AM »
Hello all, I am not new to Contenders but I just happened upon a good deal on a Contender Carbine (original series, late serial frame).  Not familiar with Carbines so could I get a little help?

Is this a youth walnut stock?  Holy Cow is it short!  It has to be youth size, but I'm just checking.

And what kind of one piece scope mount is this?  Looks interesting.

Otherwise it's a 7-30 Waters barrel, neato but really have no idea what I'm going to do with that caliber, not like I have brass and dies just sitting around for it!  ;D

Thanks for any answers you can provide. (click on pics for slightly larger version)

Base looks like a Talley it should say on side, or could be a Dez. stock is a youth stock, most rifle pulls are at least 13 3/4 to 14 inches you will love the 7-30 waters barrel mild recoil and you can buy factory ammo for it, Federal is the only company that sell loaded ammo. all come in 120 grn. It is a great deer round. I have one in rifle and also one in super 14 pistol. There is always someone on forum looking for a youth stock.

The scope mount is a TC Duo-mount unless there were clones.  Some folks don't like them because of the lack of forward-aft adjustment room.  I have them on several pistol barrels where I guess that is less critical.

Thanks guys, the scope base/rings has no markings anywhere visible on it, that's why I asked, guess it must be a T/C Duo-mount!

Doing a search here it seems that the youth wood stocks aren't the most plentiful items on the planet, so I suppose I'll put it up for trade in the Classifieds.

And I've read plenty about the 7-30 round, know it's a good one, but its uses are probably lost on me.  I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with it.

Thanks!
