Hello, Keith44. I have been shooting cast bullets in the .22 Hornet & .222 Rem. for quite a few years. This has always been a goal of mine. It took me 5 years of experimentation, a few custom moulds, to finally equal the best jacketed bullet accuracy with cast grease-groove bullets. I have an original .22-10-45 Maynard ctg. It has a paper-patched bullet. I had Tom Ballard make an adjustable, cup-based .22 P.P. mould. I shot nothing for 1 1/2 shooting seasons but P.P. in these two rifles. The funny thing was, accuracy wasn't there until the charges were way up into the jacketed bullet level. Sometimes the accuracy was astounding, then again, with the same loads, there were patterns. I found as did the old-time riflemen, that unless that patch comes off at exactly the same instant as the one before it, there will be fliers. Patching with Teflon tape gave some of the best accuracy, but that tape was so fragile, any cut, would result in a bore full of lead. One thing I am sure of..that bore is now very smooth.. I had paid Shillen extra for hand-lapping..I thought it was smooth. After a few hundred rounds of P.P...It now is SMOOTH. Wheras when cleaning before, 1st. solvent soaked patch came out black, took two or three to come clean..Now, 1st. is black, 2nd. wet patch comes out muzzle looking as it did going in chamber, dry patch spotless.
