Hello, I was wondering if there are any .22 paper-patch users out there...or am I the only crazy one? :P

You have much more nimble fingers and better eyesight than I do! I don't go below 30 cal unless I have to and that's not often. OK, the 6.5X55 is an exception. But at least those are pretty long so you can hang on to them.

I am new on this forum, but I have been patching since the 60s. Started patching .308s up to .318 for an old Mauser. I have tried 22s, but at my age 30s are about as small as I mess with anymore. My old hand just wont handle those little bitty bullets any more.

Paper patching 22 cal bullets?  Yes, it can be done.  You may end up spending more time casting and patching than shooting.  I think it would be very difficult to match or exceed the performance of cheap bulk-packaged 22 cal FMJ bullets.

Hello, Keith44.  I have been shooting cast bullets in the .22 Hornet & .222 Rem. for quite a few years.   This has always been a goal of mine.  It took me 5 years of experimentation, a few custom moulds, to finally equal the best jacketed bullet accuracy with cast grease-groove bullets.   I have an original .22-10-45 Maynard ctg.  It has a paper-patched bullet.  I had Tom Ballard make an adjustable, cup-based .22 P.P. mould.  I shot nothing for 1 1/2 shooting seasons but P.P. in these two rifles.  The funny thing was, accuracy wasn't there until the charges were way up into the jacketed bullet level.  Sometimes the accuracy was astounding, then again, with the same loads, there were patterns.  I found as did the old-time riflemen, that unless that patch comes off at exactly the same instant as the one before it, there will be fliers.  Patching with Teflon tape gave some of the best accuracy, but that tape was so fragile, any cut, would result in a bore full of lead.  One thing I am sure of..that bore is now very smooth.. I had paid Shillen extra for hand-lapping..I thought it was smooth.  After a few hundred rounds of P.P...It now is SMOOTH.  Wheras when cleaning before, 1st. solvent soaked  patch came out black, took two or three to come clean..Now, 1st. is black, 2nd. wet patch comes out muzzle looking as it did going in chamber, dry patch spotless.

I've been patching for my 219 Zipper for about a year . Got 2 identical molds 50 gr. Ranch Dog tumble lube gas check design and one other .224 mold that didn't work out.I patch for lots of other calibers and have come down to mostly tracing paper or 9# onion , although I still use other papers , these 2  are all I've tried on my Zipper so far. Have run them from 1800-3550 fps w/o any good results , sized prior to patching and /or after w/ a final bullet size of .224 min. up to  .2265 inclusive . I've cast boolits from 8 BHN up to 22 BHN .Bore slugged at .2246 and barrel is Marlin medium weight w/ 336 lever action. This is one of my most favorite firearms to shoot but not my most accurate but it will consistently shoot 1 1/8- 1 1/4 100yd. benched and full rest w/ copper jacketed bullets . I am as yet a long way off of that w/ PP   but to be fair w/o looking at my book I've only run <400 ish down range in Paper Patches  , but in all the different combinations that I've run down range , patterns describes them fairly well.  I usually have a PP load figured out by now or sooner but I'm not discouraged , working up loads is very rewarding when you do get it where you want the accuracy to be. When I get through w/ this project it will get shelved anyway as this is one of my PD guns and I really like using fragile projectiles and I haven't thought about making some hollow point dies  ;D
