it is a really just a longer 40 s+w case.  shoots the same bullets, just with alot more power.   up until now the only other company making them (to my knowlege) was glock.  and i just dont like the looks the glock and suspect i wouldnt like the trigger.   i tried about every handgun you can think of (except glock), but when i handled a kimber stainless 2 for the first time it came home with me.   hopefully they will make them for a while; i cant afford it now, maybe in a year or two.  i really hope they make them for a while!!!

To my knowledge the 10mms that are currently available are: EAA Wittness, Glock 20, Glock 29, Dan Wesson Razorback, and now the full size Kimber. Anyone know of others?

Just held one this past weekend at my new favorite gun shop (last favorite gun shop closed due to Adolf Daley's gun grabbing politics).  The owner told me it was new for this year so I think it was a late summer thing.  It is a sweet pistol.....

S&W also offers a revolver in 10mm.  If memory serves they also offered an automatic chambered in 10mm that some federal agencies used to cary.

colt451911 - you're right, I think.  I too believe S&W offered their large semi-auto in the 10mm caliber, but I don't think their revolver in the same caliber is gonna be a big seller.  I think lots of folks would be happier with a Model 19 in 10mm or even bring back the Model 27/28 in 10mm.  Then I would upgrade the model 10 series to handle the 10mm and the j-frames to 40 S&W.  There's just somethin' 'bout those 10mms that I really like.  That Kimber should be a real shooter and I'm glad to see more of them on the market.  Just my 2 cents worth.  Mikey.

Yep, guys, I am aware of the S&W autos and of course, the Bren 10 (original 10mm pistol). I am interested in current manufacture pistols only. I find the large frame revolvers like the current offering from S&W to be too large for my intended use.

i am with savage on revolvers chambered for 10mm; why not just have a 41 or 44?  the 10 only interests me if it is in the form of an auto loader.   and in a kimber?   oh man.  almost makes me want to sell off some of my current guns for one.  why couldnt they have come out with it two years ago?  better late than never i s'pose.   just hope they produce them for a while; as i think my next one is and post ban (as in after the ban expires) car-15.  as sweet as it is, i have been waiting too long for the ban to expire.

Hay myronman3:  Ya know, if you get yourself a 10mm, you can get a barrel for the 9x25mm round, which is a 10mm necked down to 9mm in the same fashion as the 357 sig - I forget who designed that caliber but it's the fellow (Mike somebody) who sells all the blue stuff and makes the progressive reloaders and has the pretty girls, who are properly dressed, on his half sized magazine covers.  Dang, this CRS drives me nutz!  Anyhow, there's a pair for ya, the 10mm and it's skinny brother - I'll bet that 9mm moves out close to 1600'/sec or so - nice flat shootin' vermit load.

Dillon, is the name, and I think he designed the 9x25mm.. Whew, it finally came to me.

Now, someone is going to have to clarify this for me but I wonder if the case head on a 38 spl is about the same as the case head on a 10mm and if it is, then you can get yourself a 38 spl bbl for that 10 and shoot target, too (if ya wants to).  Or, if you want light loads, you can always load the 10mm down to 40 S&W velocites or get yourself a 357 sig bbl or just about anything you want to do.  I love the 10s, I think they are great.

Now, as for the revolver business - the Model 19 in 357 is designed to take higher pressures than the 10mm, I believe (I think the 10 operates at lower pressures).  If I had the $ and the time to toy with it I would have a Model 19 reworked to handle the 10mm - that would make a heck of a nice field piece.  If that worked I would love to try the same with a Model 27/28 in a 4" or shorter bbl.  The 10mm does not match up to the 41 magnum but it would give you a healthy round to have with you in the field.  I know that a 170, 180 -200 gn 10mm will T&T a whitetail at 50 yds and might just be the ticket in medium to large frame S&Ws without all the fan fare of their trying to make up a revolver to compete with their 41 Magnums.

However, since this is only my 2 cents worth I am open to suggestions, criticism, nit-pickin' and a couple of burgers since it's getting close to lunch time.  Mikey. :-D

Mikey,

The model 27/28 is the N-Frame Gun, the same as the 610 (10mm).

I know the original poster wanted current manufacture guns only but for others interested S&W made a whole line of 10mm guns. 1006, 1076, 1086 and possibly others major differences were barrel length and firing system ie. DAO or DA/SA. They are available through KY Imports www.kyimports.com  Sean

Oh and for the 1911 fan do not forget the Delta Elite and it's variations. I had one and wish I still did.

One last thing, the advantage to the 10mm in a revolver is full moon clips. Just ask Jerry Miculek how much faster they are on the reload than speedloaders. That is why he shoots the .38 Super in a wheel gun. Sean
