Used .22 hornet Handi
« on: April 08, 2011, 09:49:14 PM »
Lately I have been looking for used H&R rifles and shotguns. I found a used .22 hornet a a local gun shop this week. It has a BB prefix serial number. The blueing is about 75% and it has a damaged cheapo scope on it. The price tag says $240 + a bit for the governor. The action is smooth and broken in and the gun locks up tight.

Is this gun worth picking up? I not even sure if this is a good price.

Kool,

Budsgunshop has a NIB 22 hornet, blue barrel, black syn. stock set, iron sights for $276.  Price includes shipping to your FFL but you would need to pay your FFL for the transfer.

FWIW, I saw a beatup Handi 22 hornet with an el cheapo scope at a gunshow a couple of weeks ago.  Asking price was $399?!?!? :o

As BB pointed out you can get a NEW one for better price!!

NO it's not a "good deal at all" .

A BB Prefix was made in 1985, likely a Topper 158 which should have the slim contour barrel, if it's in good shape, lots here would gladly pay that amount for the much lighter overall weight over a modern Handi.  ;)

I know I would not take $240 for my BB M158 Hornet. It should have the tight  bore and a 1-16 twist some thing else to consider. Kurt

I figured that price was too high. I think passing on this one is a good idea.

Thanks for the help.

Often the sticker price is inflated--try an offer taking into consideration the junk scope--do you know how long the rifle has been in his shop?  If it's been there for awhile he'll likely come down a bit.

This gun just showed up this week. I would rather not haggle on this gun to be honest. A good friend of mine is the lead salesman at this store. I would rather save my haggling for something more important.

Just ask him what the 'bottom dollar' is on it; leave it up to him and accept or decline, no harm done, no points lost.
That is, if you are even interested in it........
