Well i have two bolt guns and was wondering do i need a lever gun to?please me make up my mind,looking at a marlin 336 in 30-30never had one .

Of course you need a lever gun! Everyone needs at least one! :twisted:

My preference lies in a different direction, however I do own an old Marlin 30-30 that I use as a plinker, and its a lot of fun to shoot. I understand the 30-30 can be OK for deer hunting as well, as long as you learn how to use it and keep the range at a reasonable distance.

Now if you want a more versatile hunting gun, we could start talking Savage 99, Winchester 88, BLR....

Sure you need one or two. I have a Marlin 45-70 and a Win 44. They are not legal to hunt anything in this state (slug gun state) but I sure have a blast with them at the range. A lever action is great in my opinion.

How have you got this far in life with out one. :eek: Get that Marlin and shoot at least 3 or 4 boxes of ammo a week for the next 3 months :-D :lol: and make a appointment and well see how your doing. With that your problem

let me ask you, Do you want one? Then buy it and enjoy. Need has nothing to do with it really. You already have 2 bolt guns, and I would be willing to bet that once you buy a lever gun and begin shooting, you will simply love it, and prefer it to the bolt guns. The 30-30 is quite deadly on whitetail and a host of other critters too. Have fun.

Although my bolt guns will outshoot most of my lever guns, I prefer levers for hunting & plinking. When it comes to serious target shooting, I shoot the bolt actions. My 375 & 7-30 Waters in Win 94 are excellent shooters. My 30-30 is good but my .44 Mag Trapper sucks. I also have a Henry .22LR that I love to shoot, although I have 4 bolt .22's that will shoot rings around it. I can't figure out the problem with my .44. My groups vary from 2" to 8" @ 50 yds. I wouldn't dream of hunting with it.

I'll have to warn you like John Y Cannuck did -- they're addictive! I still have plenty of bolt guns. Most are collecting dust. The lever guns are just so much fun to play with and shoot. My first was a .45-70. Then I got a .30-30. That was soon followed by a .357/.38. Everyone who has shot the Marlin Cowboy with .38 Specials in it wants one. It is really a blast. I shot a 3" group of 8 shots at 100 yards with it with open sights. Knew that was a keeper for sure. (Kept jumping back and forth from the rifle to the spotting scope after each shot. I couldn't believe it was really happening!) I've said before in another message, if could only have one gun now, it would be the .30-30. It's lasted for over 100 years now. It must still be doing things right. I guess that's why lever guns will never die. Yeah, you need one.

Bolt guns are for bench work, leverguns are for the field. They are basically an American innovation and fit right next to baseball and Mom's apple pie and the Red, White and Blue.
