TCR triggers

 Hello,  I have a TCR Aristocrat with the double set triggers.  When the trigger is "set"  it goes off with just a whisper of a touch but when it is not "set" the trigger pull seems quite heavy; so I was wondering how this compares to the single trigger version.  And can the trigger pull on my rifle be improved  easily by me or a gunsmith.

That is the way the 83 works I think mine is maybe 1 or 2 lbs at the most the 87 is a better trigger. mine has a little creap not bad and around 3lbs. That is the one thing I dont care for on the 83 that very light trigger.

I've used the main trigger a few times when in a hurry, and it worked just fine.  I was excited and did not notice how heavy it was.  But I love that set trigger.  When I go to make a long shot, or any shot where the animal does not know I am there, I use it.  It's so nice to be able to sit and get everything just right.  Set the trigger and when your heartbeat and the wind are right where you want them you just touch that front trigger and she goes off.  I love it, and would not change anything about that trigger system.  The only thing I would change with my TCR, would be to put ejectors on the barrels.  In the winter it's hard to get the empties out with gloves or mittens on.  Also it gets a bit exciting when you are looking at a Grizzly through the scope, knowing you have to make that first shot perfect. (another reason to like that trigger system).  If for some reason you need a second shot, it's going to take a while.

I've got one TCR-83 with the double set triggers and like it. I think I only used the regular trigger on it once. However, I like realy light triggers. I have a Canjar single set trigger on my .338-.378 Wea and my FWB 300 pellet rifle has about a 1/2 pound pull. I prefer regular triggers around 2-1/2 pounds or less. I have four TCR 87 rifle actions and their trigger pull varies some. Two seem very good to me and two have a little too much pull and travel.

About the only time I use my reguler trigger is when I have the shotgun barrel on the TCR.  When I am out hunting birds I just use the reguler trigger.  But when I am hunting Turkey, and sitting in a blind or on a stand, I sometimes will use the set trigger out of habit.

Which reminds me, those 3 1/2 inch magnum shells will knock your socks loose with the little light TCR.

Sourdough - I have a 3-1/2-inch 10-ga barrel with a custom super-full choke tube and have a Leupold 1.5-4X scope on it. I handload light 1-1/2 ounce loads for it as the 2-1/4 ounce loads kick too much. One time I was checking the pattern with it and found that my son had borrowed some 2-1/4 once loads and put them in my box of 1-1/2 ounce loads. I wasn't prepared for the recoil and almost got scope-eye. The scope touched my eye-brow but not hard enough to hurt, but it could have been bad. Anyway, a 7 to 7-1/2 pound gun is too light for full load 10-ga shells! Also, I tried shooting Federal 1-3/4 ounce slugs out of it  and at 50 yards got about a 10-inch 3-shot group (about the same as with my Ithaca Mag-10) and recoil was bad.

I have the 3 1/2" 12ga.  I don't reload those, I have two boxes my Dad bought for Turkey hunting.  Luckily I don't use a scope in that barrel.  But I have had it knock me over backwards more than once, while sitting on the ground.

Far as I know the 3-1/2-inch 12-ga and the 3-1/2-inch 10-ga were not drilled and tapped for scope mounts at the factory. Maybe Thompson-Center saw a possible liability issue. That is, someone getting an eye put out. I had a local gunsmith drill and tap mine.

By Golly Gosh, your right.  I went out and looked at my 12ga TCR barrel and it is not drilled and tapped for a scope base.  I had never noticed that before.
