Love to hear from Model Seven fans.
« on: February 21, 2012, 11:58:47 AM »
Hello everybody, I'm wanting one in 308 real bad, but would love some input first. Balance, accuracy, and suggestions for lightweight scopes. Thanks Michiman.

Great guns. I've owned a bunch of them over the years including at least one or mose of the chamberings. Currently have only three tho most any trip to the gun shop could see one come home with me.

I had a .308 Stainless synthetic with 20" barrel. Nicely balanced package just about perfect for the kinda hunting I do. It would stay under an inch with about all loads I fed it and some would put three in a half inch.

I'd recommend a Leupold 2-7 or 2.5-8 as a scope properly balanced to the rifle. I've used both those along with the Leupold 1-4, 1.5-5 and 1.75-6 as well as the compact 3-9 on mine.

My wife's original M7 in 7-08 was my first bought shortly after Remington brought them out. That rifle has been used by me and my oldest son and my wife to hunt all sorts of game in several states and it has never missed and never required a follow up shot on anything we've shot with it. These days she has a Bushnell Elite 4200 1.5-6 on it that I got her for a night time hog hunt many years ago. She liked the scope so much it is still on the rifle even tho I actually intended to put it on mine once that night time hog hunt was over but she has claimed it.

Mine is also a stainless synthetic in 308.  I think it was the only rifle I used all last season.  Such a joy to carry.  Perfectly balanced and easy to move around in an elevated blind.  I have lots of confidence in mine at ranges out to 300 yds.  I rarely need to shoot beyond that range.
I've love to pick up a youth model for my grandson.  He is a lefty.  A 7-08 would be my choice for him.

I have 2 of them one in 6mm with 18.5 inch barrel (steel floor plate and trigger guard)  ;D and one i just got in 7mm 08 in stainless syn stock. The 08 has 20" barrel with a new 3-9x40 redfield. The 6mm has a swift 3-9x40. They both shoot very well i like the size of the rifles. I had been looking a 6mm for many year and found one in a pawnshop of all places.

Ive got one in 7mm-08, Like said above, a joy to shoot. & carry. Mines one of the earliar ones, with the pencil thin 18 inch barrel. So after two shots, the group opens up. But the first two shots are within 3/4 of each other. Plenty accurate for me. I thought about getting it rebarreled with a longe thicker barrel, but I may just use it till the kids are ready to hunt with it,
I dont care what gun Im using as long as Im hunting

Super little guns I have twin SSYNs , one in .243 and one in 7mm-08 . The 243 is a grandsons / loaner gun . The 7mm-08 spends a lot of time in the woods with me , it has magical powers , all I have to do is point it at something and it's dead , never needed a follow up shot yet . I'd get one with a 20" barrel though , they are a bit more accurate than the stubbies IMHO .

I have a Model 7 but I also have a 700 LVSF in 7-08.  It is as light as my Model 7 but with a 22" fluted barrel.  Has a blind magazine tht I do not favor.  It is more like a Model 7 than a 700 because it is very light and easy to point.  Standard models were made in varmint calibers but someome had a special run in .243, 7mm-08, and .308.  Sweet little rifles that I think would sell well with BDL bottom metal.  Remington does not offer them now.

Mine is a woodstocked blued barrel chambered in 7mm 08. It is toped with a 2.5 x 7 Pentex lite seeker scope. It is a joy to carry in a UPPER Michigan thick cedar swamp but works as well sitting on the edge of a UPPER Michigan cramberry bog. I hand load 120gr. A max bullets with IMR 4350 powder.

I love my model 7,in 243 SS synthetic stock.Bought the gun originally for the misses. She didn' like it because no clip. Her loss my gain cause it is a great shooter.Mine is a little over scoped 4-12 Leupold VX1.It doubles as my truck chuck gun.Only thing that stinks is they came out with the 260 right after buying the 243.Other problem is you want a good scope. So you can adjust eye relief back a ways. The gun is so light it comes close to hitting the eyebrow. My friends usually get hit when they shoot it.They blame it on my reloads saying they are to hot.Geat gun and gets the most use.

Been hit in the eye by two of my rifles (in 40 years), but never by my Model 7 in 308.  Once I was shooting almost straight down and left handed and the other time I was on sandbags and not touching anything but the trigger.

mine is a stainless syn 308 i bought used. the previous owner had one of those screw on muzzle breaks installed so his wife could shoot it easier and had lost the protective cap to cover the threads when you take it off. I personaly dont care for breaks and certainly not on a short barreled 308 so i had my buddy whack it off to 18 inch and crown it. Its a true moa with loads it likes and is a gun that allways goes to camp with me each year. It is my foul weather gun for rainy or snowy days. Right now its got a redfield revolution 2x7 on it that i dont care for. I bought 3 when they first came out and this is my last one and someday when i get a bit of extra money it will be replaced. But unlike the first two this one at least has had to make a trip back to redfield.

My real favorite of the Model Sevens I've owned at the full camo dipped ones such as the Predators. I've owned three of them and still have two. Before they made the Predators they made another that I don't recall the name of those but it was same rifle with different camo dip and in larger calibers.

I saw some of those in .22-250, .243, 260 and 7-08. Dunno if it was made in .308 or not I never saw one. I sure wish I had snapped up a .260 or 7-08 and likely would if I came across one again. I keep thinking about having one of my Predators rebored and chambered to 7-08.

The thing all have in common is fluted barrel 22" long and they are dipped and full camo.

Can't thank everybody enough for all the input. My first 700 is an ADL 243, synthetic and matte with a 24inch barrel. It is the only short action rifle I've ever owned. What a difference! Even with a 24" barrel it still puts every bolt action I've had before down a notch. I've only had it a couple of months, but that's all it took to look at my 30-06 Vanguard sporter and think, Model Seven! I've already got it priced out, and I'll be ordering it tomorrow. Again, thanks a lot, Michiman.
