With Federal 100gr I get about 10" groups @100yds, but with my load (85gr Sierra) I get 1.5".  Don't think the twist works with the 100gr.

I got a 243 handi that has never shot anything over 3/4 in. at 100, using my hand loads.  mostly using Hornady 100 gr.spire points. it dosen't like light slugs at all. hyave been real pleased with this rifles preformance.

I've got three H&R 243s, all Gardner made, all but one shoots 95gr and 100gr excellent, one is a Superlight likes 100gr Speer handloads, one Ultra Varmint shoots 95gr Fusion and 100gr Federal almost into one hole, the other UV seems to like 87gr and lighter, I had it rechambered to 6mm Ackley, shoots 87gr Vmax very well, all are 1:10" twist. Lilja's twist chart states 1:10" is good for 100gr, but each barrel is different, so trying different bullets/ammo is essential, but check the twist on those barrels that won't shoot the heavier bullets, see the twist rate list in the FAQs to learn how, some members have reported 1:11" twist 243s.... or they just didn't check it properly.  ;)

my first and only handi was in 243. SHot really well, started off with 95 grain hornady, then bought some bulk core loct's. It shot those accuratly as well. My only issue with it is that with hand loads, it would occasionally split a case and open the action upon firing if handloads were used. And yes, I was full length re-sizing and trimming. So, I bought a stevens 200 for my wife and have been wanting to use this thing again, but only with factory rounds. Can I get a reemer to make it a 243-06? I know little about gunsmithing, so if its a stupid question, feel free to say so.
I sent it off to get a 45-70 barrel fitted and it has no such problems. I'd like to use the 243 barrel again.

I guess I'll never do that, .243/6mm.  Done that, got the shirt, got the hat.  I just don't see a need for them.  They're not a varmint rifle or a big game rifle.  My 6mm Remington would kill a deer.....after running 100 yards.  I didn't need that either.  My Handi .45-70 takes them right off their heels and puts them down where they stood.  It is not shot placement either.  It is shot effectiveness.  I will not use small caliber fast bullets on larger game.

I believe I'll stay away from your ballastic "hornets nest" but clarify my post by saying that this is just for the fun of it. SOmehting like a 240 weatherby magnum without the hassle of the 700 dollars spent on the new rifle. I have two 243's and the one is kinda on peroll, so, reaming it out isnt a bad thing. I have every other caliber under the sun and havent ever had a wildcat. EJ
