Sticking fired shells in 7mm-08

I am giving up on this one...got all geared up on the caliber, loading dies, bullets powders, etc. Bought one box Remington ammo...went to shoot.   Fired one round. Stuck case...tried to pry it with pocket knife..no luck..nothing with me to force out from muzzle...end of shoot for that day..

scoured the pages here...decided to convert from ejector to extractor...ground down the edge of extractor as in temporary fix section....added bb to end of spring as suggested to increase power on spring...put spent round in..still stuck...decided to polish chamber...did that with  spent case and drill with bore polish, then tried with old bore mop soaked in polish...still stuck..will extract new round like it should, but will not extract fired round...gun wasn't new when I got it(don't think)...

Will H&R fix this for me even though I didn't buy it new?  Do I need to replace the ejector I altered before I send it in?  Do I just call the phone number listed in the FAQ's to get a shipping label?  I know all this has been covered in the past and I looked but couldn't find anything in particular....I have given up on a self-fix.....

Dr. Tim will be around your bedside with a cure soon, I'm sure.  He converted one of mine from ejector to extractor.  Now, all of mine are extractors.  Ejectors should have been made like the Huntsman with a rod under the barrel.  I won't own one.

Best of luck with the problem.  If ya can't fix it, look at it positively......ya got a sturdy tomato stake.

Seriously, you have a problem with the chamber or the ejector, and I realize you know that.  It seems to me you've done all the DIY fixes.  Lets wait and see what Tim says.

My 7mm-08 is the pickiest I have, but it will only stick when I forget to really clean off the case lube. So I just make sure before a trip I clean all ammo AGAIN just in case. But since I started cleaning cases better the sticking is pretty much a non- issue. It isn't perfect, but it is one of my favorites.  thejanitor

I have a couple of 223 w/ejectors that I have never had a sticking issue...in fact you better watch out when you crack em cause they will really launch...so maybe it has to do with the size of the cartridge that it is trying to eject?  maybe its a 7mm-08 issue?  If its the chamber, could a person rent a reamer and ream it a tad?...It doesn't take much to knock the case out, just the idea of it....I like the ramrod idea..may do that...!   I won't be buying any more ejector barrels either...

Where I live, we hunt and shoot with gloves on six to eight months of the year, and I have never had a problem picking the cases out.  Tim, somehow, put a longer extractor in one of mine which is really superb.  Makes it very easy.  Perhaps we can get him to post on it, and/or put it in the FAQs.........perhaps it is there and I haven't found it.

The factory style ejector to extractor conversion is in the FAQs also, I do the hybrid version that extracts unless it sticks, then it will eject, it uses the ejector claw with an extractor cam and a short spring in between to account for the difference in length, plus an extractor leaf spring, the ejector has to be modified too, that's what Pete has on his 445SM, it can be done at home if you have a drill press (or mill of course). The only way to know if H&R will work on it is to call them and ask, they've fitted second hand barrels before, it probably has a bad chamber which may be able to be cleaned up.

Tim, it seems to me to be a bad chamber.  Try to ream it?  Rechamber to a larger cased caliber? Send it back to H&R, or junk it??  About once a week someone will show up here with an ejector problem.  That's why I don't own them.  I know they're gonna work fine at home, and when and if I want a second shot hunting, they're gonna stick.  Murphy's Law.  Even with the extractors, I keep an extra rifle in the ground blind, which is a mini cabin, in proportion to what I am hunting so I don't have to go all the way back to the house to pick up a spare rifle.

Decided to send it back to Ilion...packed it up, bought label online , then started reading more on H&R site...says against Federal federal law to ship shell , unfired or spent, with firearm..guess what was in my chamber..?    oh well,, had to unpack and remove casing....going out tomorrow..curious as to what they're gonna say...hope they fix it for free , but who knows?   thanks for all you guys' help on this...

Sometimes a Handi can upset a person. I bought a 30-30 last yr. Its serial number started with NM and it has a ejector. I took it to
the range when I first got it and it would shoot factory ammo and eject great. But reloads would stick and I'd have to use a rod
to get out fired shells. After working on it for most of the summer I finally have it so it ejects fired cases. I polished ejector, chamber
and put a BB in the ejector spring. It now throws cases about 5 ft behind me. Handis are great little rifles that sometimes need
a little work.

Getting ready to receive 7mm-08 from H&R w/new barrel on 4-26-11  that will make it one month and 3 days turnaround....had bad chamber in old barrel...can't wait to try it out...if it will stop raining, that is
