Has anyone ever blown out the 7.62x39 cartridge to increase the powder capacity?  I thought it might allow for heavier bullets and/or faster bullets.

Is there still a wildcat forum on GB?  You might want to ask over there.

WHY????????????? There are so many factory 30 cal rounds on the market that would do the same thing why would you want to spend all of the money for a custom rifle, and pay $ 100 for dies to loads ammo that will do the same thing as a factory round?

Just wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade an SKS to an improved cartridge and still operate out of the SKS platform.

I was kind of thinking the same thing!  I was thinking of taking a SKS and having it bored to 357 and use a short'nd 35 rem case.  would only have to shorten it about .125, then shoot either 35 cal bullets or 357 pistol bullets, would make one heck of a deer rifle.

I was thinking of using the same barrel at the .311 caliber but blowing out the cartridge for an "improved" version to slightly increase the power and range and use slightly heavier bullets.  I don't think it should be improved to the point of not being able to use standard ammo.  Kind of like an Ackney Improved version.  I think the spelling is right.
