Best mods to make a home defense double barrel
« on: February 19, 2004, 12:25:54 AM »
I originally posted this in the shotgun forum bet I think it might do better here. I am considering buying a double barrel shotgun because my wife does not like the pump winchester 1300 I have-especially that stupid slide safety that is under the receiver and so difficult to get to (we keep it unloaded). If I was to buy a double barrel shotgun I was wondering what make and features to consider such as nickel/stainless? Ejectors? Cut down the butt stock to a smaller length? Exposed hammers? Any pics of a double barrel worked over specifically for home defense would be appreciated.

srcjahc! hey  i wuld be sure to get one with the tang safety, those are nice! the crook will never see yu take it off safety or hear it. a hammerless coach gun with bout 20 in barrels shuld be the ticket with no mods at all if you can find one cheap. oh get the nylon shell holder that slips over the stock to store the extra shells in. jus hope they are no more than two of the bad guys and they are wearing diapers when yu pull down on them with those twin barrels! keep a couple slugs in the shell holder in case they make it bak out to their car also!

Save your money... the 1300 will work fine and you can put goodies on it for the money you would spend on the 2-barrel.

The issue of the slide release is null. When your shotgun is empty and the hammer in the uncocked position you can pull back the slide without using the release.

So if your 1300 with an 18" barrel was empty (add a $20 4 or 6-shot Sidesaddle) she loads 3 or so in the magazine, racks one in the chamber while saying loudly "Honey! Call the Coroner!", the criminal hears this and flees. Then she has to use the slide release to unload or depress the cartridge cuttoff too take the shells out. She will also need to grab the screen door repair kit to respline the door after the criminal forgets to open it on his speedy exit.

Hillbill is correct,  a 12 Ga. Coachgun with 20 in Barrels
should do the trick. (I keep one in my closet).
Depending on what you load it with, you may want
to get a slip on rubber butt pad from your local
Wal-Mart to go on it.

You guys just described mine! Never had to use it yet but it sure makes a statement if you were looking down those barrels.  KN
