THE TRANSITION OF WAR
« on: April 23, 2011, 06:53:33 AM »
We discuss Generals and tactics but little thought is given to the fact that war was changing---all over the world.
Armament was better but the Generals were--for the most part---caught in a time gap. Wars were chaging fromall out charges to different straitgies needed because of better arms.
I think this is the major reason for all the carnage experienced during this war.
Blessings

There was a great book called "Arms and Men", don't remember who wrote it and can't find it right now, discussed the way technology changed everything, and not just tactics.  From professional to citizen soldier and back to professional, mobilization of entire population, sea power and the change from sail to steam, on and on, more to it than you would think at first.  Probably written in the '50s, he never considered the rise of non-state players.
