Pre-64 M70 target rifle magazine assembly question
« on: May 14, 2011, 03:10:14 AM »
I have a terrible time trying to get the magazine clip between the receiver and the stock. One end or the other is too high. It doesn't make any difference if the clip is seated at the receiver first or after the stock goes on. What is it with this thing? Thanks.

Clip?  Do you mean the magazine box that fits inside the stock?

Yes. About the only way it will go in is to rock the stock forward and backward just a little to get it to drop into place. Must be due to a tight fit. Are they all like that?

ba_50:  I don't think that's really a problem.   I have the same rifle, circa 1946, and did not have that problem with the stock the rifle came with but what you describe is not a problem (at least to me..); it's a good tight fit and that is what you want.

Are you sure it is the magazine box that is binding and not the front lug??  Is your stock bedded??  Is this rifle new to you??

Yes it has been bedded so that could  be why it is tight. The only time it is a problem is when I take it apart to lube which isn't often. I think I got it figured out now. Thanks.
